Rd Man The Quit and all the Stories

Riverdale Man I find you to be such an inspiration. I too am on the eve of 28 days. I don't think about smoking much, usually just first thing in the morning and I get on this site. Today I have been here reading longer than usual. I don't write much, but I sure do read alot. I always wondered what would happen in a case of extreme pressure or bad news. Well I found out last night. My husband's cousin, was stabbed and killed by her 22 year old daughter spaced out on Meth..The last thing I thought about was smoking. I consider that a real accomplishment for me a 35 year smoker, smoking was always the first thing I did when there was bad news, stress and you know the rest. On the bright side, a lady and her daughter came into our store to discuss wedding flowers. The mom smoked and I could hardly stand the smell. I came home and asked my husband if I smelled that bad. See, I never smoked in the house, or the car, always outside. I don't want people to say things like that about me. Right now I am feeling very proud of myself, very sad but proud. Everyone here has so much to give. I probably sound like I am rambling, sometimes its hard to put it all in some kind of order - my thoughts- Saturday I go down to the l4 mg patch and I am determined to get through this with all of your help out there. Right now I am sitting in Southern Wisconsin watching it SNOW!!!!! Ok I'm done now. Thanks for all you guys do and say!!!! Rd Man The Quit and all the Stories

Thank you Sunshine!!! I do believe anything worth doing is worth doing well...My sentiments exactly about anything I do. I am lovin not smokin!!! I am looking forward to cutting down the patch amount. I am luckier than most, all the people I know and associate with, or most of them, are ex-smokers and big supporters including my husband. He quit 22 years ago. In fact, when I tell people I quit, I have found out how many used to smoke. Thank you for your blessings. This family is going to need them. Hi

Hi and welcome!! What happened to your marvelous quit!!! Tell us a little about what happened. I have smoked 35 years and am on day 32. I stepped down to 14 mg patch Friday. The weekend was tough. I don't always think of the cigarette, but had some cravings for a couple days. Today was much better. You need to go through all the tools here, read, and post. You need to jump back on the bandwagon if you don't want to smoke. You will find lots of help here. SSC is a great place to hang out. My name is Lucy

Hi Lucy; I too suffer from depression and anxiety. Have for l0 years. I am on medication for depression. I found I was more nervous and anxious about my quit date than I really have been since!!! I am using the patch. Had my first step down Friday. A few more cravings but I got through. I come here alot, if only to read it helps. I am determined to get through this. This is my actual first quit. Before my quits were inbetween cigarettes. LOL!! I am sure glad I found this site. It has reinforced my quit several times. Wishing you the best!! good friends help :-)

Wow!! Friends do make a difference especially when they believe in you. I have smoked many many years and not one person said I wouldn't be able to do this. I have had such great support from them all-Most ex-smokers!! Sorry you have these troubles going right now, but please hang on to your quit. I recently had some very upsetting news and was surprised that a cigarette was the last thing I thought about. I got through it without it. I have really paid attention to the people here, without this site to come to it would have been much harder. IT'S WORKING YES !!!

Thanks for all the great info. I haven't gained more than 5 pounds in this month, but I have been eating much more. Taste soooo good. I can't afford to gain a bunch, my daughter is getting married June 2 and I already have my dress!!!! Hubby goes back to 2nd shift Monday, so I will be eating supper alone, hope that helps me cut back some. And I hope I can keep a handle on the evening snacking, cuz he works till l0 pm. I plan to put a bunch of your ideas to work. Nicotine-free days vs Smoking-free days?

I believe everyone is different and has to research and find the method best for them. I had thought of seriously quitting for 2 years. I knew just buying a patch wasn't going to work, because I smoked with them on years ago. Since being involved in a university no-smoking study and was given the patch as my method of quit, I am more determined that ever to get through this quit successfully. I am much more prepared this time, through the study and then I found this group. I spend every morning here with my coffee instead of coffee and smokes. I am on day 2 of the step down from 2l mg to l4 mg and I have had cravings all day. I have walked, napped, baked, put a roast in the crock pot for supper and may still call my mom in Montana. The patch has help me deal with the habit part of smoking in the beginning and since I have done well in that end, I now will deal with less nicotine in the patch. I hope to get through this as I do get red and itchy from them, but my Dr. and study team feel I can still wear them. I have never ever put this much of myself into quitting smoking!!! I am proud of my stats and thankful for all these people here. WHatever works for whoever - DO IT !!!! Love ya all :) :) :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 29 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 891 Amount Saved: $91.35 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 11 Mins: 17 Seconds: 29
