When Fight Or Flight Mode Turns To Fight...

Hi Motorgurl -
I don't think I've had a cranky day yet (or a fight with a cup).  I've had pretty cranky moments (that pop up out of the blue). I wanted to share that I also have hypothyroidism and things can be pretty crazy when your levels are off.  Good luck - I hope that you will have a better day today and I would be interested in reading any answers that people have for your situation.
Take Care,
Carmie

Your Rose Coloured Glasses?

Hi Hugs -
You remind me that both my doc and my husband's suggested we start taking a Vitamin D supplement since we aren't getting our daily rays.  As far as attitude and rosy glasses go, I try to make a point of embracing sunny days on the occasion that we have them.  Usually the sunny days are the colder ones but it never hurts to open the window shades and let the sun shine in!

Setting and Working on goals? Hows it Going?

It's really nice to read your update Red.  My goal was to live in the moment and I had a bad week of bad moments (Getting strep throat).  I am so optimistic now that I am feeling mostly better.  My goal is to get back to running and to run a half marathon by the end of the fall.  I also read yesterday that MIT is going to be offering classes for free online.  I do not want to miss out on that opportunity.  So, that is an educational goal of mine for the year.  Keep up the great work!

Sharp Stabbing Pain

Debora,
Yes, I wanted to be sure to share about the nurse because it just goes to show that acting with kindness and compassion can have a great impact on all around you.  I'm glad that I read your response this morning because it inspires me to remember to try to act similarly today.
I hope you have a wonderful dinner and a restful weekend!

Sharp Stabbing Pain

Hi Debora,
Your posts have been getting more and more positive every day.  I am very sorry that you are in pain.  I am impressed by your changing attitude towards your symptoms.
You have a great way of expressing yourself and your feelings.  I can often identify with what you post.  They are the kinds of thoughts I have when I start to fill out my 10 questions.  I am nearly back to my old self health wise but last night I was convinced (like you) that I might have a UTI or some kind of infection.  I feel better today though.  I think...I might go to the gym.  I miss running so much!
You might remember that the airline canceled our flight to Puerto Rico where we were going on vacation.  We decided today to drive to Florida.  It will take a long time (We live in Maine) but we really need to break up the winter.  I get pretty uneasy (putting it mildly) on the Northeast portion of I-95 so it will be an excellent test of my CBT!
I hope you are continuing to rest and take care of yourself.  This is going to be a great year for you, I just know it.  You have the power within you to make it so, I know you do!  I am going to do the same for myself!

Negativity

Red, I enjoyed reading your post.  It is very inspirational!  I am sorry to hear about your test results.  I had a similar doctor's visit a couple of years ago and I started walking.
One year after starting my walking program, my test results were awesome - my nurse hugged me she was so proud of my work.
About one year ago, it was too cold to walk outside so I started to walk on my parents treadmill.  I got a little bored so I started a little couch-to-5K walking and running program and now I can run (Okay, it might be jogging...I go slowly - but still).
I wish you the best on achieving your fitness goals.  It can also help so much with anxiety, as we've talked about.  For me, it is really like taking a vacation in the middle of my day.   It helps to clear my head of all of the anxious thoughts and to fill it with positive ones.
Thanks again for sharing your positivity and good luck!

SP, I am going to take your advice about listening to "No Mud, No Lotus".  I really enjoy relaxation podcasts - my favorite is a free one called "Guided Relaxation Exercises" by Talaria.  I believe it is for coping with Breast Cancer - but it serves me well.
Good for you for being a health advocate for yourself and making that discovery about the birth control pills.  I think you are a very wise woman.

Sharp Stabbing Pain

Hi!
I know sometimes it's a chore to try to be positive but after a while it becomes habit-forming and life is much more enjoyable as a result.
I did make it to the gym yesterday and had a panic-free run!  It was terrific!!  I hope to get there today.  It is pretty chilly today - 14 degrees outside.  Nice and warm here by the computer, though!
We are hoping to be in Florida for President's Day week, school vacation.  My inlaws rent a place for the month of February and we would have a place to stay if we go.  If it's not going to be above 70 degrees, though - we may just stay home.  It's a lot of driving.  I saw a commercial yesterday that pointed out that the number of "family" vacations is limited and that resonated with me.  Even though we aren't having the best year financially, it's a priority to me to have some type of vacation.  The memories mean so much.
I hope you are having a good day today!  My appetite has still not returned but I figured it's soon still.  I might be able to enjoy a little bit more weight loss from this illness!
Take care - hope you have a good Sunday!

Bay Bridge Anxiety, day and night and now even nightmares

Good luck Starbucks - I would echo what the others have said about exposure work.  I was afraid to run completely around a 3.5 mile path around a bay (if by myself).  I used to be able to do this all the time - but after my first panic attack, I developed this fear.
My exposure work was to gradually increase the distance I would go along the path - first 1/2 a mile from the car and back, then 3/4 of a mile, 1 mile, 1 1/2 miles and so on, until eventually I could go all the way around again!  I definitely had setbacks and times when the panic was too much and I had to turn around.  It feels so good when you can finally defeat your fears.  It is worth all of the effort you will need to put into your plan.  I look forward to hearing about your progress.  You can do it!

Sunflower, Talaria is the company that puts out the podcasts.  If you have itunes I think you can find it under the title.  The speaker also uses progressive muscle relaxation methods.  They are the best game in town, I think - they have helped me to find peace in some truly stressful situations!
