Bad Dreams

One of the things I love most about visiting Florida in the wintertime is how wonderful my skin feels after being in the moist air for even just a few hours.  I can see how uncomfortable a day or two of dry air might make you feel.  Here in Maine, when Winter arrives (which it has), I like to take a bit of time to hibernate with a good book.  Do you enjoy reading?  I took a break for a long time - only read books to the kids so I am reading best sellers from 2005 and so.  Anyway, I just read the Glass Castle and I thought it was amazing.

Health issues...

Hi Bren67!
I wanted to let you know that I have had issues with an under-active thyroid (that I regulate with medication that has been extremely helpful.  I don't like to take medications but this one has given me back my energy and keeps me from feeling like eating 24 hours a day so I like it).  I also had an issue with my triglycerides that I was able to correct by changing my diet and increasing exercise.  Sometimes we need to go on medication for a bit to get through a rough patch but it is always nice to have ways to do things on our own, isn't it.
Most of the woman in my family have lost their hair - I must take after my dad's side of the family because so far I haven't experienced hair loss but it won't surprise me if it does happen.

Anyone Get Bad Headaches Daily

Sunny,
I live in Maine and I am one of the precious few here who have never seen in moose in the wild.  I think that they are beautiful animals and I would love to catch a glimpse of one someday.  We also see coyotes in the neighborhood from time to time.  I am glad that our cats stay indoors.

I am online this morning because I feel almost 100% again after my couple of days with the strep throat.  I couldn't seem to make it out the door - I felt panicked.  I logged on to try to calm down a bit so I can go to work.  Honestly, getting ready for work today has left me pretty fatigued.  I am anxious about the long walk from my car to my desk - isn't that funny.

Bad Dreams

This might be a silly idea (I am full of them) but maybe you could make some goals about getting a little bit of sun every day?  Even seeing Sunny's sun in her signature makes me smile.

It is understandable that you could have anxiety about being in the pool or being in the sun too long.  You are talking to a lady who gets anxious about being too far from a water source during her running.  I just watched a movie called "Running the Sahara" about 3 men who run across Africa.  If they can do that - I should be able to run a 3.5 mile loop around a little bay without worry. You might remember that I did eventually accomplish that goal but I did it by running just a little bit at a time, taking little baby steps towards my goal - and some steps backwards.  So, maybe you could try doing something like that.

Also, try not to worry about last year, Debora.  None of us can have last year back - we have today and right now and this very moment - this is when we can live our lives.  The actions and thoughts we have right now will prepare us for the next hour and the next day and the next week - and we have great opportunities for improvement in the future.  Wouldn't you agree?

It might be helpful to know that I was feeling very anxious about returning to work today.  "Talking" to you has helped me to feel so much better!  I am going to work!  Yay!

Thanks, as always for your honesty and openness, Debora - it is a vital part of this community of friends!

New here, dunno what to do anymore

Hi Aimee,

I wanted to let you know that I spent a month worrying about dizziness last summer.  I was so surprised to find out that my dizziness was a result of anxiety.  I should not that my doctor tested me and found that everything was physically in order with me - this became important later as I had to start using the techniques on this site.

I also had difficult sleeping and, like Hugs4U, I used a technique called Progressive Muscle Relaxation to fall asleep.  For me, it worked like a charm.  You can find the details about in the section called "relaxation" or if you search for PMR in the forums here.  If nothing else, it's a wonderful way to relax.

Good luck with your appointment, keep us posted!

major panic - is it the move?

Hi justducky!

First of all, I am sorry that you are in a period of such high anxiety.  In fact, today I am in a similar boat with you.  Here is what I am planning to do.  Maybe we can both try and we'll check back with each other.

After you read through a few of the Sessions, you have something available to you called an Advanced Anxious thoughts worksheet.  This is something that is used with the homework but it also works, for me, to help when I have anxiety and when I might have an attack. The worksheet helps because it gives me a moment to say "Okay, what are my physical symptoms right now"   Then you have to ask yourself clearly - "What are my anxious thoughts right now".  We then have to think about the evidence that exists for these anxious thoughts and the evidence against the anxious thoughts.  Do you know which form I mean?  Finally, there is an opportunity to come up with some alternative thoughts.  Those are the thoughts that help to get me through really difficult times.

But sometimes - questioning anxious thoughts isn't the best technique.  There are a number of relaxation techniques that we have available.  Right now, I am going to make a cup of tea.  I am going to put on some relaxing music and I am going to do something called Box Breathing.  Let me know if you don't know what that is, Justducky!

I have confidence that I will be able to get through this period.  We talk a lot about how our physical health can impact our emotional and mental health.  In my case, I am battling a strep throat infection and the antibiotics, I think, are making me nervous.

Justducky, please let me know how things go for you.  After I try the three things I've mentioned, I will share, I hope, some good news.

Bad Dreams

Hi Matilda:

Here is a little Maine sunshine for you  We actually had a snowstorm today.

Debora, I am actually having a bit of a bad time with the antibiotics.  I am really tired and anxious.  I used some questioning anxious thoughts techniques about an hour or so ago and it worked.  I will try filling out one of those forms again.  My sweet daughter is making me a cup of tea.  I am going to try box breathing and watching a movie with my family.

I am inspired by everyone here and their stories.  I know that I can get my positivity back in order to make it through this time.  I know I need to rest and relax and let the antibiotics fight off the infection.

Again, I feel better just having typed these words.

Anyone Get Bad Headaches Daily

Debora, thanks for the advice about resting.  I think my trouble may have been trying to do "normal" things like go to work and things like that.  I am quite exhausted and can barely hold my head up.  I have been resting a lot today.  All of my symptoms are gone except for this fatigue and sometimes a headache.  My game plan is to drink lots of fluids and rest.
I nearly had an attack about 30 minutes ago which prompted me to take out the laptop to log on to visit with all of you.
My husband had taken the kids to an indoor amusement park and I couldn't seem to reach any friends by phone.  It was the closest I've come to an attack since October.  I wanted to search the forums because I think that Davit once spoke about antibiotics and anxiety.  I have been pretty anxious the last few days.  For now, I am only anxious to get well and to have my energy back.
Take care.

Disturbing New Symptoms

Debora,

I wanted to share that I have had a lot of health anxiety this weekend.  I even called 911 at one point.  It's been rough.  In a nutshell, the antibiotic that I was taking for my strep was not strong enough.  Today they've put me on a new one.  I haven't been able to eat all weekend.  I am really anxious.

I know that you don't like to visit your doctor.  Can you call your doctor's office?  Mine has been really great this weekend.  At one point, I remember telling the nurse who called me back that his phone call was better than Ativan.

Those anxious thoughts forms are really a great tool.  They help me so much.  I turned on my laptop just now because I am feeling very anxious and I am going to fill out one of those forms.  I have been listening to a podcast all weekend with different relaxation and meditation exercises.  This has been helping me to get the rest that I need.

I was logging in to the forums to see how everyone was doing and to also see if I could find something that had been posted about antibiotics and anxiety.  My anxiety is definitely visiting this weekend and I would like to show it the door!

Debora, do you think you could fill out one of those anxious thoughts forms?  Do you know which one I mean?  They help a lot with health anxiety.  At least, they help me.

I will be thinking of you,
Carmie
