Hi India Tom, I had to do the same, I had to put my social life on hold too but only for a little while till I felt stronger, you're talking to a world champion stopper 'n starter here but keep going, keep coming to this site, and above all keep believing that you can do this, you can. Where I live it's also impossible to avoid smokers, there isn't even a no-smoking section in most restaurants and as for the bars...well you have to have a drink in a fug of smoke but it's possible, honestly it is. Talk, scream and fight with yourself, and after a short while you can actually talk yourself out of that cigarette in that moment. I found drinking cold water, cold grapefruti juice helpful, walking my dogs when it was possible helped too. Go for it!!!
Hi foremac, well done on your decision to quit, as everyone as said...do the milestones....really do them and always have your escape/backup plan! this helps me a lot, to be able to know that I can get out of any tricky situation should it arise. Keep going!
yes guys, hell week is the worst ever! BUT it's the worst you'll ever feel so keep that in mind. After hell week there are good days, bad days, good moments and bad moments but they'll never equal hell week and you get over it quicker day by day. Be patient with yourself, take some time to debate with yourself what's happening, and you'll see that the rational and reasonable side of you will always win. Always come back to the forum, we can all help each other. Way to go!!!
Had a few not so good days, I've been feeling a little more preocupied, I've been thinking a lot more about smoking and have even been debating again. It's now been 48 days so I have to keep going! I musn't give in! But I do have to say that I think about smoking less every day usually but these last few days.......Any advice would be welcome.
50 days and still going! I was going to add "strong" but I changed my mind! the most important thing is here I am at 50 days and not smoking, I've started to read my "no smoking" books over again and it's been useful. I'd forgotten about things like complacency, the debating issue and sudden triggers. I must remember my escape plan and use it.
Hi Rollingstone, keep coming back to this site, everyone on here understands you. We've all been where you are, do what it takes to not smoke, shout, scream and have a good cry if it helps....but don't put that cigarette in your mouth. You can do it! breathe deep and hold your head up high. Today I won't smoke.
Here I am on day 56, today I'll be starting my diet as I've put on over 3 kilos, and it's all gone around the middle making me look like an out of shape pear, horrible. I didn't reallise I was eating so many sweets and larger portions of food but obviously I have been. A bit depressing I have to say.
Great news...Spain has finally passed a no smoking law in public places that comes into force on Jan 2nd! It will make life so much easier and I hope it will persuade more people to stop.
Sunflower seeds are great, especially the salted ones! Be careful though, I'm blaming them (and sweets) for my extra kilos!!! But they really do distract you when you need something to do with your hands!!!
