Hey Tom!!!

Congrats on your decision to quit!!!  I also quit using Chantix and it  REALLY  helped to reduce that gut-wrenching craves I had on previous quits!  That was part of the equation for me.  The other part to my success was the SSC!!!  The Program really helped me to prepare and all my new quit buddies here provided me with the support and additional insight that I needed!  I pretty much lived on the site my first few weeks, reading and learning and posting and responding!  The distraction also really helped me!!

So, stick close and holler when you need us!!!

Tom, welcome to the SSC!  The journey to freedom from smoking takes many paths.  Some take a path that gets them there right away, others take a few detours and hit a few roadbumps.  But its the journey that makes us strong!  We learn from each life experience.  Just remember that the Wright Brother's first plane didn't fly.  And if they didn't keep trying, it would have been a very long boat ride to India for you!  Be sure to use all the wonderful resources here at the SSC!  We're all rooting that this will be your final quit!

Welcome IndiaTom!

You have certainly come to the right place.  What you are going through is common, relapses happen but it is what you learn from them that is important. It sounds like you have already got some learning out of these slips, whether you are aware of it or not.  You have identified your trigger - "the thought of suffering and desiring something so much."   Now you know your trigger point now all we have to do is change this.  You have to change this thought; in other words you have to reframe your thinking.  Reframing the way you think isn't easy but it is essential in order to have a successful quit.  How can you replace this negative thought with more positive thoughts?  Members, feel free to help out with this question.

If you are unsure of the answer start by working through the online program.  It is full of great information which will help you lead a successful quit.  Also, post and read in the forum often.  The support group is full of great inspiration and information.  Also, check out the Hall of Fame section, here you can read how successful quitters addressed roadblocks in their quits.

Lastly but perhaps most importantly, congratulations!  It takes a lot of strength and determination to keep trying after relapses.  A slip can really rattle the self confidence and for you to keep trying in spite of this tells me you really got what it takes to get through this!  So give yourself a big pat on the back!  You will get there eventually just keep on fighting!

Stay strong,

Ashley, Health Educator

Oh and stay tuned for adding the Freedometer to your posts.  We have recently completely redone the site and there are still some kinks that need to be ironed out.

Welcome!!  My story is very similar to yours.  Stop, quit, stop, quit, stop................. on and on and on. I have just returned myself.  This site is amazing as are the people.  In fact it is the members here that keeps me wanting to quit.  They support you at every turn.  WE just have to get pass picking up that dam demon.  So let's make this our final quit.

Congratulations on making to the new day, Tom.  You can learn alot about yourself here at the SSC.  There is so much support and material here for you....and you have much that may be able to help others.

Today, try altering your route to work to avoid the smoke shop temptation.  You may find something you have been missing around the other corner.  Carry and drink tons of ice water.  It tends to help with craves.

Here's to you!!!!!

Keep the Quit,

Dave

It is time to introduce myself.  I am Tom and I live in India but am an American.  I am great at this quitting.  I think I could turn it into an occupation.  This is my 7TH quit in 18 months.  I am great at quitting but also great at relapsing too.
Today is day one and I am on Champix(Chantix) and so far haven't had a craving but do dread the thought of walking past the corner store where I once bought all of my smokes.
My longest quit was 3 months.  Where I go wrong is after a certain period of time I just can't stand the thought of suffering and desiring something so much and always cave in.   I never tried this quitting using a support group before but perhaps it will help.  So far I am feeling fine but then again I had my last cigarette at 2AM last night and it is 11AM here so plenty of time for the cravings to kick in.
Okay, let's see how it goes.
Oh, can anyone tell me how to activate my freedom meter?
Tom
