Can't quit -v- Won't quit!

Lolly - I travel to Annecy a lot, I love Europe. France is beautiful. I hope you are feeling well and I wish you a speedy recovery. My thoughts are with you.

Ass for quitters.....

I agree, there are people out there that will not quit no matter what. That's fine. That's what they define as freedom. The freedom to smoke.

I will do whatever it takes to quit. I define freedom as not smoking.

It's all in your point of view. Quitting is right for me. There are people who just do not want to. I just remember what a good friend told me once... The decisions you make today influence the decisions you can make tomorrow. I am making the decision to quit today so I can make the decision to go on a hike with my grand-kids 15 years from now. Gotta look ahead!!!

Bon Courage!!!! A+

Big day today.....

Going onsite at a hostile location with the CEO of my company who is a heavy smoker. Much stress. Taking my car. I imagine he will smoke in the vehicle. I'm not going to tell him not too. I know second hand smoke and all that..... Hey I smoked for a long time, a little second hand right now won't kill me....

Here's the deal - I usually look here again and again during the day to keep my resolve. Today I can't do that, so, let me post this message right now....

NO MATTER THE TEMPTATION  -  I WILL NOT SMOKE TODAY.

This I promise myself and this group.

I will be able to finally check in sometime late this afternoon and let you know how it went. I am positive beyond any doubt that I will be reporting I had a tough time but did not smoke.

Don't you just love being tested????

Ok - off I go.... wish me luck..... this is not going to be pretty......

Big day today.....

Thanks everyone - I'm back in the office we just returned from the onsite visit. It was tough and it was tense, but I am proud to say I did not smoke, nor was the temptation as bad as I thought it would be. My CEO did in fact ask if it was okay to smoke, I said sure no problem, he offered one and I declined. He smoked, I did not. The smell was strange, I knd of liked it but mostly did not. I can in fact smell it on my shirt at the moment and that I don't like at all.

Long and short of it - I passed the test. I went through a very tense situation and had to be in close quarters with a smoker and old Nic didn't even come close to beating me down.

I WON!!!!! And will continue to do so - one day at a time.

Thanks again everyone!

Confused, spinning, rocketing up and down......

Hi all -

We had a great day. Lots of fun. We had about an hour of rain in the early afternoon but that was fine, we just stopped and had some lunch, when it ended the park was not crowded at all. It was a nice family day for us.

I felt a few interesting emotions.... As you go in there are big signs that say smoking is not permitted in the park except in designated smoking areas. As we were walking around I saw a few of these areas. Basically a set of benches set back from thr crowd. Each time I saw these areas, they were full of people puffing away. Here's what made me feel bad....

In several cases, there wer little kids with these people. The kids were at an amusement park, and naturally wanted to run around and do things. Instead, they were sitting in a circle of smokers being told to be quiet while mommy/daddy has a cigarette. I swear I felt like shaking some of these people and asking them what in God's name they were thinking, however, that's not my place, it's not for me to judge. It was just sad to see.

There's a ride called the Boston tea party. You get wet on this ride. It's a ton of fun. I watched one women leaving that ride madder than a hornet that her cigarettes had gotten wet and there's no place in the park to get any..... She was literally swearing in front of kids and people she didn't know she was so angry. Wow. Nic was fully in control of her. I almost bet they left early because she didn't have smoking material anymore. Again, sad.

I had a couple of craves during the day, but nothing I could not deal with. I sailed through it and the observations of the smokers only served to strengthen my resolve to stay quit. I won't ever give Nic that kind of power over me again. Ever.

Enjoy your day everyone - you're all winners in my book.

KEEP THE QUIT!!!!

A VERY BUSY WEEK THAT WAS!!!!!!

Very nice - it would seem that smoking is no longer a mechanism you need to deal with stress. That is HUGE!

You say you feel like a non-smoker now - I'd say you are a non-smoker now. Good job Jan. Those of us following in your footsteps are watching and drawing strength from you. Keep it up!

Smoking is Cool

I believe the reasons kids start today are basically the same as when I started. It's cool, you look grown up. Even with the information available today on how bad it is, I think they start for simple reasons.

I'll be 50 next year - I sense my mortality. I don't believe I did at 18 years old. I was going to live forever then. I think that's part of the trap. Young people don't see the long term ramifications of their actions. They are thinking about right here and right now. I think that's a big factor as well.

If only they'd just outlaw cigarettes.

A Milestone.....

Sassy -
WOW - Good for you. Happy 50th. I'll be 50 come May next year. Your words really resonate with me. I feel the same way. I don't want to go into the fall and winter of my life as a smoker. I want to be free of the habit, and I want to be healthy when the grand-kids finally come.

Thanks for the post - good to know I'm not alone in how I feel/think.
