Pokerbrat, chances are that your son is going to be just fine. Don't make yourself the only casualty of his going to war. He's coming back, and he'll want to enjoy many good years with you yet. Don't rob him of those years! I'll be praying for you! All the best to you & your boys, pokerbrat. Even though they are older & going out on their own, they still look to you for guidance and you don't want to show them that smoking is how to handle difficult times. You would be so disapoointed in yourself if you sent your son off with smoke smell clinging to you. You can do it, you can get past a tough ttime and come out so much stronger and more confident, prouder of yourself and a great example for those young men. We're all going to be at the airport with you, & we will be sharing your sadness and your pride. Thanks to all of you for your kind and encouraging words. Setting here at work, at my desk crying like a school girl everytime I think about it...well it just makes me wonder how bad it will be at the airport. I never knew the strength of the bond I have with my boys until now. I guess now I know how hard it must of been for my dad when he changed the locks on all the doors to the house on my eighteenth birthday, leaving me on the streets. I know now that I'm older that I left him no choice, and it was the best thing for me at the time. But wow, how hard that must have been on him. I could never do that. I will try and focus on the positive, that he is doing the right thing for himself, that he is trying to make his own way, thats all I can do for now. I know it will be an emotional day when he leaves, but I also know it will be an emotional day full of pride when he graduates, and I will make the drive north of Chicago to see it, come he%^ or high water, nothing will stop me. Thanks again everyone, I'll keep you posted as to how things are going. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Another emotion to deal with without smoking. They are all hard to deal with. I used to deal with every emotion with a cigarette. Happy, Sad, Mad, all of em. Each new emotion into the quit is a challenge for me. But you have to tell yourself, smoking won't change what is going on. It won't bring your son back home. Be stong for you! You have a new chapter of your life....again. From someone who knows all about excuses, I see a big one coming your way. Smoking will NOT change the fact your son is going to boot camp. What smoking will do it make you feel worse and then you have to start all over. If you did your job raising your children right, then they move on. So be proud that you raised your son well and that he has chosen to move on with his life. Just because they leave the nest, doesn't mean they leave the heart. What in the world are you talking about pokerbrat?! Your oldest son is going to be put his life on the line to defend our country and you are thinking of poisoning your body because of it? That makes no sense at all. Be proud of your son and be proud of yourself, we are. Stand firm! BTW, if you have been nicotine free for over 60 days, within a week or so all cravings should be gone. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 97 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,425 Amount Saved: $339.50 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 23 Mins: 55 Seconds: 11

Your both right, I'm being selfish and only thinking of myself, possibly even tricking myself into finding an excuse. I know he needs to go, to move on, I just never thought it would be this hard. I guess I need to sit with him and have a heart to heart and get it all out in the open before he leaves. Too many times I leave things unsaid, trying to ignore my feelings. I don't think I can do that this time, it's weighing to heavy on my heart. NO EXCUSES, NO CIGS.

Pokerbrat, There is a quote (not sure by who) If you think you can or think you can't you are right. I always thought I would lose my mind when my kids moved out. My daughter moved out last year and the relief I felt was unbelievable. It is a tough time when the kids grow up and move on but you don't have to smoke to get through it. Do like you did early in your quit if things get tough. Grab that ice water, take some deep breaths, and most of all remind yourself that smoking doesn't do anything for you. It won't change the situtaion or make you feel better in any way. Be prepared with those coping skills just in case you need them. Teary eyed is good. Be proud! Some mothers are watching their sons go off to prison. It's all about perspective. You are doing great!!!
