I want to thank everyone for all of thier support and kind words. You all have been instrumental in my success up to this point. I find myself today fighting hard to stay free, my son has left, and oddly enough I never shed a tear, nor did he. I think I was all dried up from last night to be honest. He said to his mom as he hugged her,"don't worry, I'll be fine", we hugged and I told him to be strong and that I loved him. Of course mom was crying, can't blame her, it was tough. Ok, now I'm starting to get a little worked up, it's still hard to talk about, but it is done. I would say all in all, I'm doing pretty good, I'm still free, and really am getting through each thought of a smoke pretty well, better than I thought I would anyway. Like everyone told me, smoking wasn't going to change anything, it would only make things worse. Thanks again everyone. PB, you don't need anymore advise, and I'm not going to give you any. You're neck deep in the fire and now it's all up to you. All that's left are the choices you make. One thing I've learned is that everytime one of my children is faced with a challenge to their growth, I'm faced with a challenge to my growth. And to have to stand back and say to yourself, "I've done all I can. Now it's up to my child and God." ...can seem out of the question. But if we love them and that time has come, then that's what we do. We let go, and let God. We trust that God loves them as much as we do. PB, I wish you God's peace today. If I was in your shoes right now, I don't know if anything less than that would do. We're thinking about you. Pokerbrat, You've certainly been through alot already this week. It's not easy to say goodbye to your child, especially when they're headed off to the army. You feel grief stricken because this is a loss and yes you have to grieve that loss. So cry, write it out, walk it out, spoil yourself, keep posting, whatever may make you feel better even if only for a short moment. Just like quitting, it gets easier, it just takes time. Awww (((pokerbrat))) what a great dad you are. I can't imagine what you are going through but I remember how hard it was to feel real emotions for the first time and yours must be overwhelming. It's great that you are letting it out here and doing it without smoking. You are setting a wonderful example and you'll get through this :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1105 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 22,100 Amount Saved: $4,972.50 Life Gained: Days: 84 Hrs: 9 Mins: 20 Seconds: 52

Hey PB... I'm just chiming in, even if I didn't read the whole thread right now, but I want to tell you that I understand the feelings of your last post about buying pizza and cooking and scrubbing and laundry and cleaning... Take a break from all of that and take a walk with yourself or do something special for just YOU... okay? I hope this helps and doesn't just sound stupid:) We're all on the same cruise... gotta go, hang in there, mk My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/14/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 15 Amount Saved: $3.75 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 4 Mins: 21 Seconds: 15

Thank you Martha, I am strong for him, he never see's me like this. I save this for when I'm alone. I'm doing better right now. I guess I'm feeling a little responsible for all of this, I kind of steered him in this direction, because I knew it's what he needed. But when I see the fear in his eyes, it just crushes me. I know a boy is going into bootcamp, and a man is going to come out the other end. I know he will get to see the world, I know he will never forget his Navy experience, as I never forgot mine. But it still hurts. Suprisingly my junkie is weak now, almost nonexistant. Hi PB, I didn't see this until today. Congrats on those 74 Days - they were definitely hard fought and hard won. Also, congrats on raising a son that wants to offer his talents and time in service to his country. You can definitely be proud of that AND that you are an ex-smoker. You have gotten some great advice and the thing that struck me is how scared your son must be. I think you said that a couple of times. I know that you are sad about him going and scared for him, but boy will he need to know he can turn to you to re-center him while he's away. Especially if he gets deployed. You have been there and have SO much to offer him, please don't let that get overshadowed. Try and re-channel the funk if you can and that will really stick it to the junkie! I don't know if he can get mail or packages in boot camp but whatever you can do to keep that lifeline between the three of you as I'm sure your other son will miss him too you. And you can get your other son involved too in sending letters and fun stuff. Good thing you are saving all that money :) Worry about Christmas and his birthday as they come - just get tomorrow out of the way and take it from there. You've got lots of support from everyone here. You can do this and you are growing in the process.
