Lousy Day

Hi Ya Sylvie:

No can do it takes me all my time trying to drink the 4 cups.  When I was first told I had to drink more every time I would attempt to drink I would have a panic attack.

So although my body would thank me it will just have to be content with what I can manage.  I am going to get a CAT scan next week to see the status of my kidney stone.  Here's hoping that since it's a post op stone that it's gone.

Hi Ya Genejockey:

Congratulations on going to the meditation course, at first it is difficult to sit still but I have been told by my meditation teacher that with practice the mind does settle down.  Even trying to focus on your breath during the day is a good start.  I have done a lot of reading about the benefits of meditation especially mindfulness.  If you are interested here is the link where you can purchase guided meditation CD's.  When I took the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course and used the cd's.
As I have said on previous posts Tai Chi calms me down. for a while last year I was doing gentle restorative Hatha Yoga which I also found relaxing.

cadenmccallum,   Try upping your water intake to 8 glasses per day if possible.  It seems like a lot but your body will thank you     Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator

Hi Ya Joe:

DM recommended a really good book it's called "Daily Meditations for Calming Your Anxious Mind" by Jeffrey Brantley.  I got it the other day, it's really good.  I also got a book called "Get Out of Your Mind & Into Your Life: The New Acceptance & Commitment Therapy" by Steven C. Hayes & Spencer Smith.  From what I have read it's a combination of Mindfulness and Acceptance of what is, whether it be good or bad.

I will be sure to let you know about the relaxation course.

Take care.

There you go, Caden!

The relaxation class sounds like a good idea.  If you don't mind, let me know whatcha learn, I'm always up for learning new ways to relax.

And remember, it can be hard to stick to good ideas with anxiety, such as the quote you said...(especially once an attack hits)...but keep your head up!  What happened yesterday, is for yesterday, today will decide today, and tomorrow can wait until it comes.  Keep it up, sunshine!  You're doing great!

Hi Ya Joe:

Once again thanks for your comforting words.  I really think one of the biggest things for me to overcome is my inability to relax.   I believe that if I was able to relax I would be able to let go of things a lot easier, not get so upset and see things from a different point of view.

I start a relaxation class on Monday, it's 2 hours once a week for 10 weeks.  I have a tendency to give up if something doesn't work the first couple of times but I will stick with it because I believe it's a key part of my recovery.

Hi Ya Sylvie:

I have an appointment to see the counselor next week and will let her know my apprehension.

I'm sure you are familiar with the saying "sweet tooth", well I have sweet teeth - all of them.  In fact my chocolate intake of lately is. Well I won't go into the details, but suffice to say I eat way too many chocolates.  I know this is a habit I will have to cut down on.  As for sleep I get about 8 hours, although since starting school I wake up a lot more during the night.  Since I had my surgery 3 months ago they found I now have a kidney stone which my family doctor thinks is post op so I drink at least 4 cups of water a day.

Hi Caden,

It still is a great quote, "focus on the solution not the problem".  Although it can be hard to abide by, just remember during your times of high anxiety that, it will pass with time (for instance, do you feel now the way you did at that time?)...then you can go back to believing the quote.  Anxiety is a game of push and pull, where sometimes you can't do either...if you can't do anything, then try to just let yourself do nothing.

Cheers!
