i happen to be one of the wierd ones who at times when ppl just light up a smoke i like it. but then after a bit it gets to be too much. stale smoke smell is awfull i can walk into a place and pick out the smokers. my hubby still smokes and it does not bother me at all. and no i have never cheated by taking a puff or two. i just at times enjoy the smell. Yeah the smeller is working overtime. Wonder what I have missed all of these years. When I get a smell of a smoker, I just get really sick to my stomach. Reason being is I smelled like that for years :gasp: Now I smell good :p The other day my huband and were walking by a pool. I should have smelled the chorline, but I smelled the suntan oil lotion. :eg: I enjoy smelling the good and the bad. Hiya Rust... where in Australia are you?? I'm in Melbourne. Anyhow, my taste and smell went hyper for a week or so but has calmed down again. So it might not be a permanent sensation. Of course, I still can smell a smoker (and I can't believe I deluded myself that I didn't smell like smoke when I was a smoker...) but I don't feel so nauseated/sensitive as a few weeks ago. That's such a great solution! I really enjoyed my newly revived sense of smell while camping last week but I could also smell someone smoking on the other side of the campground. The smell wakes the addict in me and then I have that to deal with. I try to maintain perspective for this is, after all, the legacy of a bad decision I made a long time ago. That bad choice will continue to bother me for some time, triggered by these events. It's not their fault I feel this way. They are not trying to harm me, the addict is. So long as they are not forcing me to take in their second hand smoke they are not the problem, they just smell bad. The thought sometimes occurs to me that others were distressed by my strong cigarette smell when I smoked and put that distastful fact aside when they dealt with me. Courtesy is sometimes difficult and always important, they are people too. So we breath in through our mouths and we can socialize with our smoking friends and neither need be offended or put out (so to speak). Two of my co-workers (who are also my very best friends) still smoke and when they come in from going outside for a smoke, I cringe - and stay as far away from them as I can. If they come up to me and I get a whiff of how BAD they smell, it almost makes me gag. I, too, feel SO bad about how I subjected my children to that smell all those years. SO me gagging is sort of a penance - a small price to pay for all those years that I did it to others. I'm just happy to have my normal sense of smell back. I keep saying, "I haven't smelled that since I was a child!" Well, duh, I've been searing my olfactory machinery with heat and smoke since I was fifteen years old! No wonder! My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 172 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,160 Amount Saved: $516.00 Life Gained: Days: 17 Hrs: 18 Mins: 16 Seconds: 7

Rust, You'll adjust to your new sense of smell in time. It just may seemed heightened at the moment. See this as a positive. You're smelling things you haven't smelled in years! Many members have had fun exploring their new sense of smell, give it a whirl. For the bad smells, nursing tip: breathe in through your mouth :) Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist
