Coping with smells?

Hi Rust, I know what you feel. I had the very same thing. I work at a gasstation and sell cigarets and some people stink so much that I almost have to throw up. You'll don't get used to the smell but you learn to cope with it. It took some time but for me I am so proud that I don't smell like that anymore. I'll tell you something else, if most smokers would know how bad they smell, a lot of people would quit. Sometimes when I see a man or woman who is really handsome or pretty and well dressed, and then I smell them.....Yikes, the good feeling about them is gone in a second. I hope this helps you a little. In the mean time: Don't smoke, you smell way better if you are a non smoker. This is how I look at the situation with my kids: when you know better, you do better. I couldn't live with the guilt if I let myself see it any other way. I have apologized to my kids & asked for their forgiveness, understanding & support & that's all I can do. I loved then when they stunk too! The headache might be at least partly from the quit. Many others here including me, were headachy & nauseous for the first little while, some of us a couple of weeks or more. The way I try to see it (& it came from wise people on this site way before me) is whatever unpleasant symptoms you encounter, embrace them as part of the healing process, know that it's your body's & your mind's way of healing from the awful things your addiction did to you. That includes the feelings & emotions you robbed yourself of feeling so don't be surprised if you become overly emotional or even depressed for awhile. It's all normal, it's all healing & as long as we stay quit, it's all good. Congrats on surviving hell week & hang in there, in BFS's words, it's quite a ride!!! Thanks unhooked :) I am actually in the final day of hell week - day 7 - my ciggie thingy only shows six days though but i think its because of time zones - im in australia. I dont think i can cope with the smells and i am so damn sorry to my kids that I have smoked near them. I feel absolutly rotten that they have had to put up with that smell - how they have hugged and love me I will never know. :( Lot of guilt here in those regards. Thank God I am now not smoking. The only thing i can think to do for my markets is to where a gas mask haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa that should work :) My headache is so bad and i know its not form quitting because I have really had an easy time at it. Its form being in those fuems this morning :( My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/15/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 150 Amount Saved: $69.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 15 Mins: 47 Seconds: 22

Sorry Rust, I am still very smell-sensitive & seem to get more so every day. I hope it doesn't last forever because it really can interfere with your life. If it does last, then I guess I have to find a way to deal with it because dulling it all by smoking didn't work so well. If you happen across any good ideas for this, please let me know. Good luck with it & congrats on your 6 days, almost through hell week!! I had to go to my market this morning - its a very closed environment and everywhere are trucks - forklifts and smokersssssssssss. I could not cope with the smells. Within 15 minutes of being there i felt physically ill and now i have a massive headache. Do you get past this? How do you cope?
