Close calls

Was out having a few drinks last night - one of my friends who quit soon after me bummed a cigarette from someone, and was going to go outside and smoke it. I saw it and took it from him, as I have not seen one close up since I quit. I pick it up, smelled it - probably looked like a chimp playing with a banana before eating it - honestly it smelled really good - but I gave it back to him and that was that. I realized the main reason I did not really give smoking it much thought - i do not want to have to go through what I have just gone through - especially the 1st month or 2. That is probably the biggest inital deterrent. Then all the other logical reasons for not smoking kick in again. anyway - it wasnt that close of a call - more of a re-aquaintance with the devil. Didnt like what I saw - My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 70 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,413 Amount Saved: $255.5 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 7 Mins: 15 Seconds: 36

That is awesome that you remained grounded in that situation. The devil definitely likes to try and tempt us. I have been having a serious, intense cravings for almost the entire day. I am able to keep pushing the thoughts away, but the arrival of the nice weather is really doing it to me! I kept thinking I'll just bum one...then I say to myself "do you really want to undo all that you have so courageously started?" That worked a few times. Then, I was like "I know there are some butts outside from friends smoking"...then I tell myself " would you REALLY stoop that low for a cigarette?" That worked a bit too. So what is TRUELY working here is this...I keep craving, and craving today...so I came here, I read your post and it put me back in my place. I have been reading so much today...and it's working!!!! Your strength gives me encouragement to stay strong along this course...thank you. Kind of playing with fire! Why not, as far as you keep yourself away from it. :) Keep being well, mitri My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/4/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 189 Amount Saved: $37 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 4 Mins: 38 Seconds: 12
