Different perspective

I often thought of rationing also. However with all the chemicals and everything in the ciggy's,,, nothing is healthy. So why 'ration'? It is an addiction ! BOTTOM LINE . The sole purpose of us here is that we want 100 % freedom. And 100 % pure health asap from what we deprived us over the years.\ It is only up to each and every one of us to become fulfilled. Wow...that is a great perspective!!! Now mind you I have 4 days under my belt and not 2 weeks, however, it still makes so much sense what you are saying. Then I pondered your idea...and realised, my cravings are definitely much less than when I was a smoker. This is definitely something I will keep in the front of my mind when the lil' nic-o-devil pops up again. I am actually looking forward to my first long distance flight minus the smoking...I couldn't even wait to get my baggage before having a smoke in the past and now, it's going to be so much easier! I woke up to such wonderful advise and thoughts on here today...it's going to be a GREAT day! Hey..... I was thinking of a different perspective to cravings. Give this a thought: For many of us that are on two weeks or more and have found much less cravings a day... have you considered you may have experienced more cravings when you were a smoker????? As smokers we craved cigarettes for hours when we flew on airplanes.....movies and concerts. We craved cigarettes when we refrained from smoking at non smokers houses. We had to refrain from smoking and put up with cravings at work for hours till lunch breaks. We craved cigarettes when we took long rides in non-smokers cars...or rode with non-smokers in our cars. We craved cigarettes in hospitals durring stays.....and on and on and on. I truly think we went around craving cigarettes and putting up with craves more than we do now. I not only find this amusing....but very encouraging. I mean... why not crave for a little bit and get over and done with it. Changing Great thought. How True!!! Paradoxels...(how ever you spell it). Fran.... I ... you are doing great. I would think as time goes on the thoughts should stop. Work at not allowing them. If you don't allow them they will stop. I guess there is somethings in life we may like...but just can't have. Diabetics can't have sugar. It means their health and quality of life. We can't have cigarettes... it means "our" health and quality of life. Hang in there Fran. I think reasoning helps allot!! Mental.. mental ... mental. I truly am beginning to believe it is a mental battle. We need the right weapons to win. Oh Mercy!! Great post and that one is one I have to copy to a word document and keep in my special "Quit" folder. I love it that you thought of a different perspective to cravings. I started craving late this evening and thought, "Ugh, not again!!" The crave is leaving now and it's because I'm thinking about your post and all of those times that I craved like mad in EVERY one of those situations you listed...and even more!! Girl, I've even turned down invitations to do something that really would have been fun because I didn't want to have to go without my smokes and suffer from cravings. How pathetic is that? Thank you so much for your post!! Look at your stats!! You sure look good and strong there!! mercy You are so right there, it is all a matter of perspective. We have never been free for wanting a cigarette, in fact that is the whole idea here as I see it...The more we smoke, the more we need to smoke... As we stop, the need for it diminishes, but if we are not mindful of our circumstance, our minds will not register that we need it less than we did previously...Part of the mind game is to realize the true severity of our cravings and not just the fact that we are craving a thing... stay well nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 75 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,804 Amount Saved: $525 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 23 Mins: 9 Seconds: 7

jazphoto One thing I do is to carry around a stop watch...When I begin to crave a cigarette, I start it and stop it when the thing passes...I do this because I know if I am not aware, I will think that the craving has gone on for an hour...The fact is I have never had a crave that went past 4 minutes... The funny thing is that I never smoked out in public and never craved it. Mine were always on schedule. Before hosuework, after housework, before I picked hte kids up from the bus, when I got home from the bus stop, on the phone, after an arguement or during one, before bedtime, etc. I rationed my smokes and before I quit for the very 1st time, I would smoke no more than 8 per day. That was my limit and I would smoke my last one before I called it a night--again, I have this schedule OCD thing going on w/ me. BUT then once I quit for good, the 4th time (LOL!!), my triggers would set off the crave and then I would get antsy over wanting one. Then I would distract myself, and remove myself from the situation. I am slowly learning to deal w/ the triggers properly and rationally w/o the crippling effect of smokes =) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 170 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,563 Amount Saved: $510 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 10 Mins: 17 Seconds: 58
