Mercy, Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It may interest you to know that research suggests, smokers begin the withdrawal process which leads to the next craving 20-40 minutes after their last cigarette. Yikes! Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team

Thank you mercy! :) I am trying. It DOES get easier, but! I would have thought that the "thoughts" about them would be few and far between by now. They are fewer than 130 days ago of course! ;) I guess I also just need to think of it as: I smoked for 26 years, it's going to take AWHILE to stop thinking of it!! Funny, I'm usually the last one to leave the house, and ALWAYS my last thought was "all butts are out", and I still will stop sometimes and think that, and then it clicks! YES ALL BUTTS ARE OUT!! :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 133 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,677 Amount Saved: $698.25 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 9 Mins: 17 Seconds: 2

I like thinking of it this way! As you can see, I'm at last in the 130's and yet sometimes I STILL crave for a butt! I still think about it almost all the time! I mean, I'm not going crazy like I was in the beginning of course, but DARN! Sometimes I find myself just really wanting them!!! Mercy- Great Post! This really struck a chord with me - I'd never really thought about this. I definitely had 100x more cravings when I was a smoker than I do now! I always thought I could never quit because I could never endure the cravings, when in fact I was enduring cravings all of the time as a smoker. Another fallacy that I've just recognized is the false credit I assigned to smoking. I used smoking to help me get through the following: when I was tired, when I was anxious, when I was sad, when I wanted to relax/unwind, when I was excited & wanted to celebrate, when I was hungry, when I was bored, when I was full, when I was stressed/overwhelmed, etc. This makes no sense!!! How could smoking: make me both awake & help me to unwind/relax? hold off hunger & help me digest when full? make me feel entertained when bored & calm when stressed, etc.? Nothing can stimulate you/wake you up and other times (at your discretion) make you relax/calm down! Nothing can make you feel full when hungry and at other times make you feel less full after you eat! As smokers, we seemed to credit nictoine as this miracle drug that could help in every situation. What nonsense!!! What an insightful post! I knew a man who took a long distance flight, the cravings were so bad on that flight, that he decided not to have another cig and quit rather suffer through a few cravings and get it over with. Tutti, I'm just like you, I cannot tell you how many events I declined because I knew I couldn't smoke. It was crippling my life. Like a true addict, I blamed the event, or other people for being narrow minded infringing on my freedom to smoke. There is a freedom to being smoke free, and options I didn't have before. One thing that got me through many cravings was the thought that I would have a craving whether I smoked or not. Followed by...the only way to make them stop....was to not give in to them! Now, I rarely think of a cig unless I'm trying to help someone else quit! If I hadn't quit, I'd still be craving every 20 - 30 minutes! :gasp: ~lbugg~ My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 723 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 40,535 Amount Saved: $5061 Life Gained: Days: 70 Hrs: 10 Mins: 19 Seconds: 1
