Day 3 very rough day

Thank you everyone for you words of encouragement. The cravings have seemed to let up a little bit. I am not using any NRT - just went "cold turkey". My husband has been very supportive of me and helps me cope when cravings attack. He reminds me to take some deep breaths and just remind myself why I don't want to smoke anymore. I am also using suckers to help with the cravings and other hard candies. So today is my 3rd day smoke free and I have to say that it has been the hardest day yet. The cravings are so strong that I have almost given up but I keep telling myself that the cigarette is not worth it. I need to find a healthy way to help calm my nerves instead of smoking but I don't know what to do. Any suggestions? Dee

I too am on day 3 - and also am finding it by far the hardest day yet - I am at the point now, where if it doesn't start to get better soon (even the teeniest bit better!!) I might cave in - I just don't think I can bear the thought of feeling like this for days upon days upon days. It is now reducing me to tears, and I feel so restless and out of control.

Thanks 3galeh - it is uplifting to know that hopefully in the next day or so it will all start to get better. To be honest, this afternoon has been much better (dare I say it?!!) Although "it" is nagging at me, I don't feel so tormented - I am very aware its there, but seem to be able to live with it - at least for now anyway!!! I still cannot get my head around the thought of NEVER smoking EVER again - this is going to sound like a complete contradicition though as I have no desire or intention to smoke - does anyone else know what I mean or am I just a bit crazy? ;p Britt

Dee, It's my third day also. Fortunately for me, I've been very busy which helps a lot. I also eat candy, especially hard candy, and drink water. But you probably already know this. I'm sporting a 14mg nicotine patch as well. Are you using anything like this? Hang in there -- I think (hope) it get's easier. Well hello Dee! Congrats on 3 days! You are on your way!!!!! When you crave a cig, just remember it is the junkie talking. It will creep up on you at any given time. All you have to do is remember one simple thing -- smoking isn't an option. What can you do instead of dwelling on your thoughts of having a smoke? That is up to you. What kind of things do you enjoy? A book? Music? Take a walk? Make a long distance phone call to someone you miss? Dance like a maniac? Scream? Anything................ Just dont smoke. You have to take your mind off of your craving. If you can do that, you will get yourself through your cravings. I read a lot of posts on here. Old & new ones. It helps pass the time. And you learn A LOT! I've gotten closer to people by just reading their posts! Stay strong...... Never give in........... Your fight is worth it. You only have a few more days of hell week left. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!! *****4my2girls**** My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 238 Amount Saved: $35.97 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 23 Mins: 0 Seconds: 2

I found one of the best things to do when I craved was post and read in here. At first I thought I was getting an ssc addiction but it passes. Try to keep yourself occupied with other things. Did you get alot of hard candies? Gum? Chew on twizzlers, or toothpicks. Read a book, take a walk, take a hot bubble bath, sing a song, do a jig...etc...just don't smoke. It is so worth it in the long run. You did well posting here instead of smoking. This place is an awesome support system. Just try and do anything to keep your mind off the craving. If you want to scream, beat pillows, cry, or whatever else you are feeling let it out. It seems to be harder on you when you try to control those emotions and hold them back....LET THEM OUT!!! Lock yourself in a room with no access to smokes...whatever you have to do. The nicotine should probably be about out of your system I believe. You are doing great. 3 days smokefree is incredible. Every day, hour, minute, second without a cigarette is an accomplishment and you should reward yourself for that accomplishment. Hang in there it gets better!!! I had found this information to be of help during the first few days. I found that anytime I was having a craving I could read this and remember what I am working toward that moment, that day....what exactly is the immediate health benefit... http://www.ash.org.uk/html/factsheets/html/fact11.html Sheila
