Finals... HELP!

18 years ago 0 8 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I hear ya on the replacement thing, I actually use Smokey Mountain Snuff (its an herbal tobacco free substitute :)) and that has helped usually... but as I type this I am staring down a 200 pre-calculus problems due in 12 hours or so. I am a frat boy, and if I could survive pledging I probably can do this, lol. its just the first time ya know, this and drinking are the only times where quitting gets hard, although I can finally resist it when drinking.

After 5 years of 1/2 pack a day smoking I finally quit. I decided to quit on Halloween 2005, but purchased one pack between then and now in December, during my college finals. I am now studying for my spring finals, and am stressed out, having to pull all-nighters, and am taking Adderal/ caffeine. This was my favorite time to smoke, but I dont want to give in. Any suggestions please?

I am perscribed Adderall for ADD. I usually cant eat on adderall and I used to smoke to make up for it

I have been eating more now on it, cuz I lowered my dosage, plus I only take it when I need to study for a while, I don't take it daily. It has that upper effect like you want to smoke, but after tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. I'll be done with my hardest final, and won't have to take it after for awhile.

well good news is I just took my hardest final. Now I won't be as stressed, since my other 2 finals are jokes, or have to take much adderal.

P.S. People wiht ADD who are prescribed Aderol have a "downer" effect with it - it only is an "upper" to ppl who don't need it. A LOT of my friends from college took it to study, get projects done, but some started feeling like they couldn't study, or start that paper or project without it. I knew girls who had a big house cleaning day where they got all hopped up on it to do some spring cleaning. These are all activities you can do without adderol. I worried about them. Glad you're done, but maybe this is something to look at.

Wow, unccexsmoker - I also take this drug, prescribed for ADD as well... If you cannot eat while on it, it sure sounds like the strength is way to strong for you, as it is not at all meant to keep you from eating! (just my opinion and common sense from what my doc advised me...) How about healthier steps... smoking rather than eating...hmmm - what about eating light small meals, and breathe...no smoking!! Hi unccexsmoker - Firstly, I am assuming that you are taking Adderal for your ADD and as prescribed? I take it also and it is speed, though it is mild the way it is prescribed for ADD... The Adderal is probably a part of what is pulling on you... so breathe, and take the time to ground yourself in the truth ~ and that is that YOU ARE NOT A SMOKER!!! And what you used to do is no longer what you do or who you are, dear one... One step at a time, ground yourself in your truth!! unccexsmoker, I completely understand! I too am going through finals and my favorite time to smoke was when studying as well! It was the only way I used to know how to get through finals. Well, last semester I discovered that it IS possible to study and not smoke! LOL! If you asked me that before then, I would have told you that it just can't be done - well, at least not for someone who used to smoke. Well, I am here to tell you that studying without smoking CAN be done. However, the only way to get through this difficult trigger is to get through it and rely on your strength the next time. Next time you have finals, say to yourself "I did it last time without smoking and I can do it this time too!" So how do you do it? Well, what I did (and still do) is use twizzler pull n' peels as my cigarette replacement. I "smoke" my licorice (they have virtually the same resistance as a cigarette... it's uncanny!) That seems to help me emmensely with the cravings. I know that studying is a huge trigger, but you can do it! If you smoke this time, it will be MUCH harder to not smoke next time... as I'm sure you're well aware. Just hang in there! Crave the Quit!
