retaining water, tense muscles

18 years ago 0 52 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Lana, I am also experiencing these symptoms and it's only been 8 days. I will take the advise of others when they say that these symptoms are signs of the body healing. That helps me get through it. I have started eating 7 grain bread....it helps to make things move! 3galeh thank you, I've now made water my new best friend. I had been drinking it but not nearly as much as I should be. I have noticed a difference since I did this. I was also eating a lot of sunflower seeds. This is loaded with salt. It was helping with keeping my hands and mouth busy and off the thought of the smokes. Kitty, I have realized that the water retention started when I started exercising. So I'm drinking a lot, a lot of water and i'm increasing my walking each day. I gained 9 pounds in 3 weeks and this has kicked my butt into "get up and get out and do something". Just wondering if retaining water is a common thing after quiting smoking? Also, I've noticed that my muscles seem to always be tense. I try to concentrate on relaxing yet only last minutes till I realize I'm all tensed up again. I am sleeping a little better which is great yet some of the newly found systoms since quitting has yet to decrease like gas as others have mentioned, sinus, constipation, to name a few. Thank you Josie for your response. Cincere, thank you also. I have started walking 4 miles a day and as I think about it the retaining of water did start when I started this. If anything my eating habits have gotten a lot better then before I quit and gained 9 pounds. I started yesterday keeping tract of what I eat and the cal's and the miles I walk each day. It's really helped with my whole mind set. Excercise sure has made a big difference in my whole out-look on things, and life in general. Now I look forward to getting up and being thankfull instead of angry and depressed. Hi Determined, Congratulations on 8 days. That first week is a big one. I've been learning a lot about this subject of water retention and Really watch your salt intake. I didn't relize how much sodium is in the foods we eat. If you start keeping track of this now it will help in the weight gain in the next few weeks also. Second-- drink drink drink drink WATER AND LOTS OF IT A DAY I'm still having trouble making things move. Hi Lana. I am glad you posted this as I am having the same symptom. It seems to be even worse after exercise. The tightness in my fingers is the most noticeable. I wonder if our diet is influencing this. I think that I may be eating to many foods high in sodium. I also drink too much diet pop but did before I quit smoking as well and did not have all this fluid retention. Lana, Hi, I've noticed the water retention too. I thought it was just my imagination, but now that you said it maybe it is one of the withdrawal symptoms and its funny because it didnt happen till just recently. Try drinking more water, it will help flush out the salt from your system. The walking is great, I did that when I quit and haven't gained any weight, but I did watch what I ate too. I had theconstipation so bad I went to the Drs he said try putting allot more fibre in your diet.
