18 days!!!!

I have been rather quiet, but my husband and I have 18 days under our belts!!! The cravings have come less frequently, but are still there. Still using the patch, but I ditched the wellbutrin. I have started to watch what I am eating because I was gaining about 1 or 2 pounds a day! After lunch I walk a mile. After dinner 1/2 mile. I feel much better. There have been two times that I almost slipped. Last night, in the house by myself, I searched all over just in case I might have dropped one behind the couch cushions or in the cabinet where I used to keep my smokes. Guilt took over right after the craving! So far so good and I am so proud of myself---did you know that the key to your car will start the ignition without a cigarette in your mouth? I thought that was amazing! Hi all..well it's time to quit

Glad to hear it! Good Luck! I quit Tuesday, May 23 at midnight. It has been 18 days and I have lived through it. My husband quit with me. I was a 3 pack a day smoker for 34 years. You CAN do it! When does it get better?

My husband and I both stopped smoking 11 days ago. I am using Welbutrin and the patch, he's going with the patch only. The first 3 or 4 days were hard, as expected. Now, after 11 days, the urges are less frequent, but much more powerful. I was a 3 pack a day smoker and quit after an abnormal chest x-ray (not cancer, but chronic bronchitis and still have more testing---COPD?) When will these strong cravings and weird dreams subside?

Made it through another day!

Starting on day 2 after my big slip. I didn't want to go back through what I did that first week after quitting. I guess I thought after 49 days that I would reward myself and somehow justified it with those nicotine free cigarettes. I also thought it would gross me out---not---it was good! The guilt was overwhelming, though. I am staying on my 14 mg patch and day 2 is going fine! Thanks for the support.

Stepping down on the patch

I also am using the patch and wellbutrin. I am only taking the wellbutrin in the AM because the PM dose interferred with sleeping. I got rather comfortable with the 21 mg and stopped taking the wellbutrin. Had a recent slip about a week after dropping to the 14 mg.--after 49 days! I'm not saying it was because I discontinued the wellbutrin, it was my (bad) decision. However, if I could go back I would not have stopped taking the wellbutrin. It is now day 2 after my slip and I am back on the wellbutrin with my 14 mg patch and life is good. I spoke with my Dr. and I am going to continue on with the 14 mg for a few weeks longer since I did slip. I was a 3 pack a day smoker for 34 years and I AM determined to beat this! You can too!

Back on track

It's a brand new day and I am back on board!!! I really want this quit, so I have re-committed myself to it. I went to bed and slept 10 hours, got up, went to work, confessed to some supportive co-workers and they confiscated my nicotine free cigarettes. I feel so much better already. I CAN beat this!

I feel like a loser...

I quit smoking June 23 and had been doing sooo well. Using the patch and wellbutrin. When I went to a lower dose on the patch I had a minor slip. Then today, for some reason, I went and bought nicotine-free cigarettes and smoked four. I feel like a loser because I know I am just a hair away from going back to smoking and I keep fighting myself justifying it. My husband quit with me and he has had no slips and does not know about my recent slip. He quit because of MY health and I'm the one cheating...HELP!!!

I feel like a loser...

Thanks for the responses. I meant to say I quit May 23, not June. The cigarettes are called Quest and there are three steps, each lower in nicotine. I went to my old spot to buy smokes and the owner, who knew I had quit, told me those were the only ones he would sell me. The lowest was what I bought with .05 per cig. Anyway, I left them hidden in my office this afternoon and did not take them home with me (I did smoke one more---up to five now). On my way home I stopped by a park and said a little prayer---I usually tell people I am agnostic. I don't really practice, but I'm the first person on my knees when the $*#@ hits the fan---and today seemed like a good day. Had a little cry, came home, and as soon as I sign off of here I am making a very stiff Jack and coke to drink while I take a long bath and then I am going straight to bed. Tomorrow is a new day and I willbe okay---I think. I'll let you know. Thanks again for the support. You have no idea how much it means to me! FEELINGS OF DOOM AND GLOOM

Twinsmomma: I felt the same way, too. Wellbutrin and the patch together have helped, but I still sometimes feel like I have lost my best friend. It has taken me 34 years to realize that a true friend wouldn't do to me what the cigarettes have. Congratulations on your decision to quit. Stay strong!
