Conqured another trigger

Today I was getting baskets ready for Easter morning and trying to think up an egg hunt for my kids. All of a sudden I had the absolute worse craving. I have not experienced this so strongly in weeks now. Until I sat down and realized it was frustrationa and a creative block I was suffering from, not a need for nic. When I was trying to think of something, and wanted to take a break to figure it out, I would have a smoke. So today, when I didn't know what to do, I thought I wanted a smoke. But when I sat down and took a minute (I came here and read some posts) I figured it out without the nic!! Yipee! I made it through, and I didn't cave in. I knew I could do this...now if this damn PMS would ease up. The Petition

OK, lets set this up for you. Yesterday I was in the local tobacco shop.(don't worry, no smokes for me, but a great place to buy my lotto) As I was waiting in line, the lady ahead of me asked about this petition, taped to the countertop, that has been started by local stores. A new government Bill that is waiting to be voted on will change the advertising laws for tobacco produts. They are trying to ensure that stores are unable to have a visible tobacco display anymore. According to the store I visited (I have not yet been able to check this out fully), if passed, the tobacco will have to be hidden in the store at all times. The result being, when you go to buy a pack of smokes, they will get it out from under the counter (where all tobacco and related products are hidden from site) and put it directly in the bag. You are unable, legally, to open the bag and show the product in any public place. I believe, this is the start of making Nova Scotia completely smoke free. Since you are unable to look at the product before leaving the store, you will not be able to exchange that puchased product if you have the wrong brand or whatever. (If anywhere else is like small town, Nova Scotia...... most businesses have a No Exchange policy in place. Once you have left the store you are out of luck. You know, buyer beware.......Look before you leave) The point of all this information....when it came my turn to answer the cashier's "Will you sign?" My reply was a strong "NO!"..... needless to say, she didn't appreciate me leaving her and the other smokers behind now that I have quit. (No, I am not better than you, I have just chosen to be smarter than you) So, I took a moment to quickly explain that while I agree with some parts, I disagree with others. I think it's my right not to see tobacco where ever I go, my right to have MY OPINION, but not right to have no recourse as the customer getting the wrong product. But, my feelings as a non-smoker, and as an ex-smoker..... "You....the government, the stores, and everyone else........ know that smoking is deadly. Yet, it still is a legal product sold in most stores all around the world. As hard as quitting was, and as smokers knowing how hard and un-acheviable it seems, they should be hidden

I have tried and tried again and this is the first time I have come this far in my quit. And I really feel as though I can do it, thanks to everyone here, the support they all show me (even though my loved ones support me, nothing is like the support everyone here will give to you), and my desire to live a smoke-free life. What I am trying to say is...as long as you continue to want this, and you stick around here and post and read....you will be amazed how far you can take this quit. And maybe be able to go back to enjoying that adventure filled life you love...with some money in your pocket .......... for living. You have it Bear..... This site is therapy for me. How many times has the doctor told me that I needed to join a support group for one reason or another. They are wonderful, everyone siad. But I never could bring myself to go and sit and talk, face to face, with people with the same problems. For fear that I would still be singled out. Here there is none of that. We do this online, stay somewhat 'annonymous', and are not judged. We are helped along the way, we have the support of everyone here, no matter what we are going through. So, keep fighting the good fight and just stick around. We hear ya....we are there, were there, or are goiong....So here, you really are never alone. pregnant smoker

You know you should stop . And you know why you should stop. So there is no sense me telling you over and over again the dangers of smoking during the pregnancy. But here's a truth for you. I smoked while I was pregnant with both my children. I was too young (with the 1st), stupid, and just unable to stop. Luckily my oldest was born healthy as can be, underweight (5lbs14ozs) but healthy. My youngest daughter was not as lucky. Knowing this may have been my fault. She was 2 months early and weighed only 3lbs14ozs. We spent 1 week with her in the NICU of St. Josephs hospital in Ontario, then 3 more weeks in Niagara General's NICU. Her 1st picture, complete with incubator and tubes coming from everywhere, came 20 minutes after her birth with the warning that she may be dead before I get the chance to see her, not just this stupid picture. Then came watching the doctors and nurses feed her through a tube and not being able to hold her without a heart and oxygen monitor trailing behind, we didn't hear a good cry from her until she was about 6 weeks old. And we were lucky. Thank God she is a happy and healthy 5 year old now. Afterwords, I was assured that smoking was not the cause, but that doesn't really help much. It may not have caused the condition (placenta previa) but had I been a non-smoker, she would have been larger and more capable of handling the extra stress. I live everyday of my life with the knowledge that if I had quit, she may have been born without all that difficulty. On top of all that, I almost died and left my hubby a widow, alone with 2 kids. Please, just do everything you can to keep this baby healthy, and give him or her the best possible start to life he or she can have. I hope in some way, my story will help. Hey Bear. I'm so glad to see you are looking so stong on Day 3!! You are very inspiring in your journey to lead a healthier lifestyle. I hope things are getting easier for you each day. Just keep doing what you are doing and don't look back. You have made it through 2 days (of hell) and I'm sure you don't want to have to repeat them. And remember to check up on how much healthier you are now that you have quit. Keep going, its hard but soo worth it. Isnt it wonderful to see that so many people have been able to quit smoking before us. And just as helpful I find to see new people trying each day. And I too love this family we have here.
