your valued opions please

author1, I did the hypnosis before I quit. Although I felt that I wasn't truly hypnotized, it sure has been an easy quit for me. If I had it to do again I would see the hypnotist as a counselor and not do the hypnotism. I really loved the getting ready part with her and finding out why I wanted to quit. Looking at a future "happy place" that I wanted to be in one day. I truly imagined that place everyday. I makes me so happy and I feel so strong. The happy place was part of my hypnotism.. hmmm.. I have never once wanted to go buy a pack of cigarettes... I have never had a single doubt and stress does not make me want to smoke either. The only cravings or events that I get sneak up on me and when I recognize them.. I just say.. ah ha.. no way.. just keep moving.. Hard to tell.. but I am on day 10 and hardly have any problems now. The counseling is great.. I would do it if I could afford it.. I have heard great things about Cold Laser something or another.. great things !! 40 days.. pleaseeeee don't give in. Hang Tuff ! NRT or not?

groovykitten, I have a mother with emphysema too. She has been smoking for 58 years. She is still smoking and on oxygen 24/7. She has pnuemonia and is still smoking. She says she is trying to smoke herself into a heart attack. It is not working though. Sometimes she just disgards the oxygen and doesn't seem to care. She repeats the same story day after day when she doesn't keep her oxygen on. She doesn't have alheimers or those types of diseases, she has lack of oxygen to her brain. Yesterday, she called me and asked me what my brother's name is. I told her and then asked her if she was on her oxygen.. of course she said no. She doesn't talk long.. too hard to breath. I told her that I quit smoking.. she said that's great.. and told me that 2 of my nieces had quit too. Then she said.. Now if we can just get me to quit (my brother quit last year). She always says it but doesn't mean it and runs away to her room and hides when we try to talk to her about it. She weighs about 90 lbs and smokes in between coughs. She gets up at night and smokes.. It has been haunting me for for a long time. My son is so happy that I quit that he kisses everytime he walks by me.. he is 18. People in our lives can really give us reasons to want to be healthy. It is such a relief to know that I will (God willing) not end up like my mother. Hang tuff !! Chris

Welcome !!

I saw Dave's post at the bottom of a long thread.. I loved his post so this is DaveP : Hi I'm Dave, and I'm NOT a smoker! Yeah! Quitting ROCKS, and so don't I for doing it! Sometimes I go crazy and I hurt the feelings of those around me, and I'm sorry about that. Its not them, its me. Or more specifically, its the scorching fire I feel in my brain from lack of nicotine... but quitting rocks! Yeah! Let's make smoking history, y'all! Gross question...sorry :-).

Hey RissoRoo ! You sound like you may have a sinus infection or some kind of infection.. ex-roller may be right. Smokers usually have more sinus problems and some on an ongoing basis. A course of antibiotics may make it all go away. Now wouldn't that be cool !! I spit up yellowish stuff in the beginning and then had a blackened tougue and spit up black stuff for 2 days. I started coughing somewhere in the beginning and am still coughing off and on. I like to cough because I know it is just my lungs trying to clear. This may sound pathetic but, I felt as though even 24 hours without smoking improved my ability to to breath more deeply. Today, I feel as though the world is full of air for the breathing.. silly thing to say but, it feels that way now. Take care of yourself.. you have a great future of not smoking ahead of you. NRT or not?

Tennielle, I would say from your post that you don't feel confident in going cold turkey. You see your life as stressful. If the patch gives you the confidence to quit again then why not? I have used the patch in the past and I personally didn't see much difference in the cravings but, it is obvious that people are all unique and how you feel and what makes you mentally ready is MOST IMPORTANT. (I was allergic to the patch and had to discontinue in 3 weeks). I did break old habits with it in 3 weeks though.. Get the patch, you can always wean off it later. I remember your last quit.. you didn't seem confident. I think you are smart to get more prepared this time.. Did you get some candy ? Clean out your car ? Throw away all cigarettes and ashtrays ? Avoid people who smoke if possible and places that make you want to smoke.. bars, great parties.. you know... Put money (IOU is better) in a jar everyday equal to the cost of a day of smoking. Let your kids know what it is.. they will check it for you everyday believe me. You can give them a cut for good behavior. Be determined and you can do it !! Hang Tuff ! STRANGEST THING.. I ENCOUNTERED AN OVERPUFFING SMOKER.

Today for the first time I was forced to stand in front of a smoker. I was in line at a convenience store to pay for gas. I had just stepping up to the counter when all of a sudden, I felt like something had taken over my lungs. I felt them fill up and tighten up. I actually threw my head from side to side and placed my hand on my chest. It was like a movie and some alien had entered my body through my mouth and was filling my body with a heavy poison. It was actually uncomfortable and I felt violated. I mean I wasn't given a choice.. I was made to inhale it just by being there. I turned my head to see a man behind me just apuffing away.. creating a huge cloud of smoke. I paid and for my gas and as I was walking away, the lady behind the counter said.. damn smokers huh? I shook my head in agreement and walked off. I was just amazed.. I could not believe that I would have such a reaction. So weird........ Any quit smoking buddies out there!

ashika1Text TextTextText Welcome to all the help you will need to stop smoking. We are starting a group for people who quit smoking in February. Fairydust is running it and we are currently trying to come up with a name for it. You are welcome and invited. Come for help with things you don't understand or just to vent. We know what you are going through and we will be pulling for you. As Corny as this sounds, make a list of why you want to quit.. why it is important. Keep it handy.. laminate it .. post it on the frig.. Acknowledge that you are important and that deciding to quit is the right decision.. Pickup some hard candy, sunflower seeds, snacks.. to munch on instead of smoking.. these things really help. Try to avoid people who smoke if possible. Drinks lots of water or tea or cranberry-type juice.. this will help flush your body of the nicotine while you detox. Get rid of all cigarettes, ashtrays, matches, lighters from everywhere. Clean/detail your car .. this really helped me.. Day by day, smell you hands and your hair and don't be afraid to breath deeply.. Do not stress over what will happen when you eat or drive or get into situations that use to be your high smoke times. You can get through them.. cravings only last for a maximum of 3 minutes. Pamper yourself and ask for help/time off if you need it. You are detoxing and like any rehab, you need time to deal with changing your life. YOU ARE CHANGING YOUR LIFE ... GETTING RID OF THE BALL AND CHAIN !! You are going to take this control of your life back and we are here to help !! POsitive attitude is so important.. Smile you are taking charge ! :) Hang tuff ! i am having trouble sleeping

Hey Judy ! Two weeks that's great !! How long have you been having the sleep problem.. and how much do you actually sleep at night ? Coffee.. are you drinking coffee in the evening ? Oxygen, you brain is getting more oxygen.. may be making your brain work better and keep you up thinking. The patch.. how long do you plan to wear it ? I don't know much about side effects.. maybe it is causing the problem. If you wear it at night, I have heard from others that it may cause dreams.. maybe sleep loss ?? I used the patch years ago.. I never wore it at night.. put it on in the morning after breakfast. Physical activity always makes me sleep better.. maybe walking or exercising before bed. You sound like you are going to do it this time !! Hang in there. WEEK 1....

Quit4Josh, I had the same experience.. I wanted to know what I should do now. I was dealing with the few cravings but, it was the free time I needed to figure out. I still have this feeling sometimes. I decided to stop thinking about smoking all together. I imagine that it doesn't exist for me at all. When I get that feeling, I imagine that I just moved and I am trying to figure out what to do in my new environment. It's kind of the same thing.. new life in a different environment. I have now begun telling people that I quit smoking or if someone asks me about smoking.. I say.. uh.. I don't smoke (smugley, throwing my head back a bit.. ) lol For myself, I said.. stop obsessing on smoking.. start living.. full steam ahead.. jump in.. don't look before you leap (just this time).. just go !! It cannot hurt you, it might make you happier. You are going to make it this time.. you have come too far now.. 1 damn week.. it is a turning point !! Be proactive.. go shopping !! Hang Tuff and congradulations on the BIG 7 !!
