where to begin?

Hello and welcome, I have only been at this for a few days but I know the answer to this one! Slow deep breathing, trust me, I have been doing it constantly and it almost feels like smoking. Good Luck!! Today I turned 40 and quit smoking

Thank you everyone!!!! I didnt think anyone responded to my first post and felt all alone and then today when I was having a weak moment, I found all of your responses and had tears in my eyes. Thank you all so very much! I know I need all of you and your words of wisdom. I have exercised four times today and still feel like I am a bundle of nerves. My husband cleaned my Jeep out today so I didnt have to get into a smokey car. My mother took me to lunch and out of respect for my struggle, didnt light up herself even though she is a heavy smoker. My five year old said that since I am giving up smoking, she is going to give up lying, lol! Anyway, I plan to visit this site all the time. I wont give in. I see that all of you have worked so hard and have so much to offer a new quitter like myself. I am going cold turkey and hope that I have made the right decision. Believe it or not, I was afraid of being hooked on the patch or gum. My brother was on the patch for two years and when he finally peeled it off, he started smoking. I guess it must be in the family. My other brother has chewed nicorette gum even longer. I dont want to have nicotine in my system at all if I can help it. I dont know if I can do it, but I am going to try. Thanks again everyone. I felt so understood by your words. Denisey :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 56 Amount Saved: $10 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 6 Mins: 4 Seconds: 9

Could use your help

Hi Moots, Another January birthday here too. I quit for my birthday on 1/14 and trust me, if I can do it, so can you. I didnt see your earlier post either because I would have wished you much luck. This is the best present you can receive. To break away from our addiction is the hardest thing we can do but will give us the greatest payoff. It was so nice to get into my car this morning and not smell the stale smokey stench. You go for it!!! :) Happy Birthday Moots -Denisey My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 108 Amount Saved: $25 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 11 Mins: 47 Seconds: 48

DAY - 2

Hi DREAMER, I know how you feel. It is my sixth day. A few things helped me not to smoke the first few days...first, try to take slow deep breaths when the cravings hit you and second, chew straws or something like that. That may prevent you from overeating to satisfy the oral needs. Stay with it. Keep visiting this site, it truly is a godsend. Wish you much success DREAMER. :) Denisey

slipped again

Orel, Sorry for your slip but forgive yourself and try again. I know you feel bad but move on and learn from it. It could just as easily been me who slipped. I wish you future success. Hang in there and just look at this as a bump in the road. We are all here for you :) Denisey My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 107 Amount Saved: $25 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 11 Mins: 37 Seconds: 29

Not getting support from my husband :(

I am on day 5. Last night I had a huge fight with my husband because I asked for his help with the kids. He told me I was a ***** ***** and that I should go back to smoking. I ended up leaving the house and walking one of my dogs because I was afraid that if I stayed and argued with him, I would light up. I dont want to start smoking again but it is very hard when you have no support at home. I am so angry  with him! As far as my physical withdrawl symptoms, I feel wired, have had tremors and big mood swings. I have been on the verge of tears several times in the last few days. I truly hope I can make it. Thanks for listening. I feel like I am going to lose my mind :confuse: Denisey

the "empty feeling" in my stomach

I know exactly what you are all talking about. I even feel some achiness in my jaw. It is unbelievable how strong these symptoms are. I agree, some of this may be in our minds-hope we all feel better soon :)

Strongest urges on which day

For me the first day or two wasnt that as bad as each day has been thereafter. I think the first days were novelty but now this is real and it is hard! I think the reason I am sticking with my quit is that I would hate to have to go through this all over again :( I am really praying after a few more weeks I will be over the hill and everything for the most part will be downhill :)
