Just started today/introducing myself

Welcome JamieUS :) Taking slow deep breaths will help and almost make you feel like you still smoke. Let your kids help you and tell them what you are going through. If nothing else, maybe you will prevent them from ever smoking by showing them the agony of withdrawl. Best of luck to you, you can do it! Not getting support from my husband :(

Thank you everyone for your support---from Denisey I have read and re-read your kind supportive words throughout the day. Thank you, thank you. You all have made me feel like I can get through this without my husband's support because I have a place to get my support from others who are going through the same thing or have. So many of your responses were helpful. Yes, this is my quit and regardless of the people around me, I can do it! Thanks again. I only hope more people can find this website-it is truly a godsend! :)

Here we go again !!!

Hi Dreamer, Please hang in there. I am on my seventh day and this is the first day I have really felt okay. I went through tremors, mood swings, rage, sore jaws, headaches, stomachaches and crying fits. I couldnt go poop for 5 days(trust me, that almost did me in!). I stuck to it and it was nearly impossible, so many times I wanted to give up. I didnt. You dont have to give up either. Keep coming here and read and post. You are stronger than you realize. Today I got up and smoking wasnt the first thing I thought of-I couldnt believe it when I later realized it! Hang in there honey---we are all here for you. :) Denisey My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 127 Amount Saved: $30 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 13 Mins: 48 Seconds: 11

Not getting support from my husband :(

Update from Denisey Let me tell all of you about my husband. He is a former smoker of about two packs a day. He gave up smoking about ten years ago. He now smokes cigars. Since his brother became ill with liver cancer, he has been on quite a "midlife crisis" and selfishness trip. This has been about a year now. His brother had a liver transplant and is doing fabulous but my husband still acts like he is single buying toys for himself like a 4 wheeler, Harley Davidson, etc while me and our two daughters do our own things. After he screamed at me the other night to start smoking again, he asked me the next day if I want him to move out. I said under the circumstances with what I am presently going through, I dont want to make any decisions. We have been falling out of love for many, many years but especially this past year. I am fortunate to have my wonderful daughters, ages 10 and 5, great coworkers and family. He is not going to get to me with his negativity and selfishness. Thanks again to everyone for their invaluable advice-it really has helped me :) Denisey My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 113 Amount Saved: $25 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 12 Mins: 18 Seconds: 6

How Children Teach The Simplest Things like DETERMINATION

Hi everyone, Tomorrow will be a week smoke-free for me. As posted earlier, my husband was of no help in my dire moments of losing my mind trying to deal with this. My biggest saviour besides all of you has been my five year old daughter;Julia. For some reason, she actually "gets" all of this. First, let me give you some history on my littlest child. She is a spit-fire. She is the opposite of my sweet ten year old daughter. If you tell her not to do something she will do it just because you said not to. She is "cool" before her time. She lies constantly, not to avoid getting in trouble but I guess, just because. Despite all sorts of efforts to get her to stop lying, she has kept on telling the tall tales. After seeing her mom going crazy in just the first few hours of her quit, Julia declared "Mommy, I am going to give up lying so we can quit something together". I really didnt give much thought about it at the time but like magic, my littlest girl has stopped lying. It hasnt been easy for her, unlike me. Sometimes, I will see her start to say something and stop herself-like she was going to lie and made herself stop. Every night she crawls in bed with me at eight o'clock, her bedtime, now mine(I dont like staying awake any longer than I have to this week!)and she strokes my hair and tells me things like "You're doing a good job not smoking mommy" and "I am so glad you don't go out to the garage to smoke now mommy" and "mommy now you smell nice". I don't know if she realizes what her impact has made on my quit, but it is huge. Even more so, is her desire to show me that she has the determination to give up something that she enjoyed doing(lying). My daughter is more wise than I ever could be. It is really amazing what she has taught me this week. After all of the crap I have faced this week with my cravings, craziness and unsupporting spouse-she and all of you have been MIRACULOUS in this hard journey!!!
