Yes of course it matters to me but it's no big deal to anyone else in my life. It is a big deal to me because it was the cause of both my parents deaths. The only one who is as excited as me is my sister who quit around the same time. Support here is good but it's virtual support as I don't know any of you. It's especially no big deal to people who never smoked. Last night I played music at a bar and was with a lot people who smoked. I enjoyed playing more without smoking being a part of it. It wasn't easy and would never had been able to do it without chantix. At 4 am, I had to go the the hospital for a gall stone attack. They gave me a shot of narcotics and let me go and I didn't ask for a narcotic Rx. I really wanted to smoke after and during that and am so glad I did't. all the best

Mrlucky, if you think it doesn't matter & you want to see how we support each other here, please read my "Grateful in the Rain" thread, in the general forum. Most people wouldn't think taking your kid to a concert is a big deal, but it was to me & everyone here got that & celebrated it with me & for me. We're all doing this same hard thing & that's why we know how much every little victory matters. That's the beauty of what we do here & that's how we get it done! Mr L, It does matter here. We all think that quitting is a BIG DEAL. That's what we all have in common and that is why we keep coming back here. Your promise means alot to me and I will offer you my hand for support. I also promise not to smoke! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 86 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,580 Amount Saved: $412.80 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 15 Mins: 56 Seconds: 44

Yes this all sounds good but it's no big deal to most folks. They don't seem to thing stopping smoking a big deal and others will just move a fe feet away and light up

That's a good day, Mr. Lucky. You can promise for an hour, a day, a weekend, or not at all. Early in my quit, I would say "I will not smoke for 20 minutes." And then I would say it again in 20 minutes. Some people find it helpful to commit or promise other people. Others choose to be accountable to themselves. But good for you for helping someone out. Even a "You're doing great!" is a support. I guess I can promise to not smoke today and offer support to another. As a matter of fact I think I did help my ex girlfriend today. She started smoking when we were together this summer and was never as addicted as I was but still keeps going back to it and regreting it. I told her about chantix and how it's helped me and how much better I feel etc and now she will try it. I was around a open pack or marlboros last night, alone for a while before the owner scooped them up. I thought about it for a second but not too much. all the best

mrlucky, nobody can guarantee that they won't smoke. That's not really what the promise is about,at least not to me. There are 2 parts to it, there's the promise not to smoke for a aday or a weekend or whatever, & there's the offer of yuor hand to the next person. The way I see it, if you take the hand of the one before you & the one behind you takes yours, you don't have a free hand to light up. The promise is really a re-affirmation of our commitment to ourselves and a reminder that we are here to support each other. MAy of us find it to be a good motivator. Nobody has to do anything they don't feel comfortable with, mrlucky. So if you don't want to join the promise parade, nobody is going to fault you for it. Or, you could promise not to smoke for the next 10 minutes, if you feel that's all you can commit to. Wahtever works for each of us, is the right way. I can't be cocky and garauntee I won't smoke. I wish I could and maybe some of you really can. I failed too many times. I feel that I'm on my my to being a non smoker and this is the best start I've ever had. I'm also know I probably woudn't even be here writing all this good non smoking stuff if it wasn't for chantix. Chantix is buying me time to re-adjust to life without smoking with off the chart cravings. In time I'll ween down and come off of it alltogether. all the best with a smoke free weekend.
