Just wondering if anyone has some tricks in dealing with a smoking husband or wife. My husband smokes and currently has no intention of quitting. Although, I hope that in my success I can change his mind. The hard part for me is the desire to join him when he goes out for a smoke. Yes, he smokes outside or in the garage. He never smokes around me or in our home. But, I know what he's doing and I miss smoking with him.

I agree, a little chocolate is not a bad thing. OK..a lot of chocolate! If it'll help you get through without smoking, I say eat the cake! The weight will come off eventually. When you're ready.

Alrighty, let's see, I have tried to quit many, many, many times! I have tried this site before and failed. My most recent attempt is at hypnosis. I went once in June and did amazingly well at staying smoke-free. For a month. Then I got married, and started up again. Yes, the wedding was a little added stress. So, I blame that. Now, I have another appt for a second hypnosis and I have been smoke-free since Sunday. I am going to try this website for support again.
Wish me luck!

My "why" is definitely for my health. Although there are a lot of added bonuses!

Thanks for all your support and advise. I hate to say that I slipped on the weekend. The weekends are obviously tougher because I am with my husband more. During the week at least I am away from him at work. Somehow not smoking at work is easy. It's at home that I'm having a hard time. Even though I cracked over the weekend, I am going to keep trying. Hopefully I can set an example. I want my husband to quit too.
Well, I am back on the band wagon! Thanks for all the advice and encouragement! I went to see my hypnotist yesterday...or hypno-therapist (I think that's what they're called) Anyway, it really works! I can't believe it. Today I don't even want a smoke. Now, I did the hypnosis before and it only lasted a month (that was when I slipped the first time) So, I'm not going to celebrate just yet. But so far so good. The only negative thing is now I think my husband stinks!

Cindy, good luck! I have also quit recently and my husband smokes too. (which is making things difficult!) When I read your post, I thought we have that in common. And, I am thirty-something too. Ha ha! OK, I'm 32 and have been smoking off and on for 18 years. I find what's really hard is that feeling that smoking is a part of me. You know what I mean, like cigarettes are so much a part of my life that I can't go on without them. But that's not true. We can do this! Be strong.

This may be a very generalized question with possibly no correct answer. But I am hoping someone can give me an idea of how long my life will seem upside down? I am very irritable, depressed, I have no attention span lately and I'm feeling generally unorganized and unhappy. This is causing strain in my relationships and if things don't start to improve soon I am not going to have any friends left! I am about a month into my quit and I'm praying that these feelings soon go away. Please tell me they will!
Thank you for all your advice. I have to admit that I am very afraid of having these feelings for the next six months! I don't think I could take that! I am already on Zyban, but my feelings is that it's not doing what it's supposed to. I did miss my morning pill yesterday, maybe that's why I was so depressed yesterday? So far so good today, but it's still early. Yesterday I rewarded myself with a nap. I know, it's not the most healthy choice (I could have exercised or took my dog for a walk) but it did help. Maybe today I'll buy something. Thanks again.
