The Big List!! -The whole parade from Bubba to Margo

Holy cow Mr. Ed! That is some list. And I'm even on it, unbeknowngst to me. There's a lot of work in that list. And a lot of people who did a lot of work. May I just take this moment to tell you all that with my non-smoking fund, and I still have some change left in it, I have rewarded myself with a brand new car! Yes, if I could paste a pic in here, I would. Anyways, it's a nice Cobalt LT and I just beam from ear to ear knowing that it came from all my efforts of just not having that one smoke. So yes, you can do it too. I have so much to be thankful and grateful for, mostly this site and never forgetting my dear mentor Bubba to whom I have dedicated my quit to so many times. A paste from my SmokeFreeStat Quit Meter which I still run on my desktop reminding me of this: I have chosen not to smoke for 4 Years 6 Months 1 Week 2 Days 18 Hours 54 Minutes 18 Seconds. Cigarettes not smoked: 33095. Money saved: C$14,065.70. :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) Lou From Vancouver, Beautiful British Columbia, Canada :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2003 Smoke-Free Days: 1654 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 33,080 Amount Saved: $14,059.00 Life Gained: Days: 218 Hrs: 22 Mins: 30 Seconds: 16

Another failed attempt

Dear One More Try, I want to tell you something. A quit is personal. The fact that your husband still smokes is really "none of your business" to put it bluntly. My husband still smokes and he smokes in the car, in his car, not mine. And there's nothing I can do about it. I chose to quit, he hasn't. Does that make sense? I just want you to understand that. Those are nicodemon excuses. Have you ever seen the PUPPY thread on here? It dates back to the early in my quit. I am pasting it here, as I have always treasured a lot of stuff from this site. Keep trying until you get it right. It took me many attempts to get to where I am now. Lou From Vancouver, Beautiful British Columbia, Canada Here is the copy/paste: let me share this with you. It is our P.U.P.P.Y., as written by Nancy D: as quoted by Kestrel P.U.P.P.Y. A quit is very PERSONAL. You may be self-absorbed, even selfish. There are some things about it you will tell no one. Guard your quit as if it were your most precious asset. A quit is UNIQUE. Its not one-size-fits-all, not even one-size-fits-most. There are similarities in experience, yet how you feel about and react to each experience can barely be communicated, let alone shared. The PLAN (the Journey provided by this site) is a living document. Work it, and rework it. As you learn and grow, you will have more insights, and perhaps become more honest with yourself. Go back to your Glovebox, and refine the contents, making them better and stronger. PARTICIPATION in the forums is a lifeline. For some, that means they will post a lot. Others may only read a lot. But there is help, wisdom, and laughter there for you. YIELD to the changes you must make. Some will be painful, and temporary. Others will be lifelong, and wonderful. Another failed attempt

Thanks Alohakeia! It's my pleasure to come back here and meet you newbies. I just so want to share in your efforts and prove to you that this is doable. I tried and tried so many times. As to the weight gain, yes, I "balooned out" a bit but not for long. It was just a body reaction, a big change to it but I assure you all that it stabilizes after a while and I'm back to normal now. I've been kinda skinny all my life, so I'm enjoying the few extra lbs. I weigh 140 now, from 118 as a smoker, and I look great if I may say so myself. Just check out my reward in the Stats Parade thread on the Big List and you will understand why I'm so overjoyed with quitting smoking! I'm going to quit

Xena! I am so happy that you came here again. This is the place to be. Call it the right place at the right time. Me, and all your friends, and you know who they all are, are here for you, to help you with this, to hold your hand, and to be by your side so that you can cross the line with us and be on the good side of the fence. It'll be uncomfortable, yes, at the beginning, but you will feel better when you make a big "X" in those calendar boxes every day! You just fight fire with fire sweetie. When it gets so rough, just have yourself a little snooze so it passes. I wouldn't fool around with this quit too much, I came across a big grizzley bear that weighs 252 lbs. on here and I think he means business! LOL So lean on us, lean on me, I'm with you all the way. Your friend always, Lou (Louise from Beautiful British Columbia) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2003 Smoke-Free Days: 1661 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 33,220 Amount Saved: $14,118.50 Life Gained: Days: 219 Hrs: 19 Mins: 38 Seconds: 50

Self Doubts

Speaking of addiction, allow me to post this article which my doctor gave me very early in my quit (in 2003). It has been posted here, bumped, and revisited many times. I think it's worth bumping it up again for all you new guys. ADDICTION I am addiction. I start in small subtle ways promising many things. I promise you enjoyment and pleasure beyond your wildest dreams. I deliver guilt and despair more horrible than your worst nightmare. I promise you power and courage. I give you feelings of powerlessness and hopelessness. I will force you to live in fear always. I promise you relief and escape from all your daily problems. I create for you greater problems than you ever have imagined. I promise comfort - I will give you pain. I promise friends - I allow only isolation. I promise happiness - I create much sorrow. I AM ADDICTION I will steal from you your self-dignity, your families, your friends, your children, your homes, your dreams, your spirit, your life. For love freedom, and happiness are impossible to find in my presence. So never underestimate me I am devious and manipulating. I have no preference as to who I pick as my victim rich or poor, young or old; black, white, yellow, or red. I have killed men, women and children I have no conscience. So, if you have met me always beware for if you think you can beat me and I will be gone from your life and all will go well again. NEVER forget that I will always be therewaiting in the dark shadows just around the corner. I am very patient. And I will laugh in your face If I can lure you into my evil world of hell on earth once again. I AM ADDICTION! Day 1

Xena, if it makes you feel any better, let me tell you that the longer you go without smoking, the worse they will taste should you have one. That thought helped me a lot. Because with each passing day and as you are healing, the cigs will taste like "crapola". So next time you think you'd like to have one, think of how bad crapola must taste like ok? Keep going girlfriend. And cry your eyes out if you must. Drink lots of water. I think I cried enough every day to fill up my water bottle! So it's all very normal. Release those toxins now. It's time to get well. Shine on you beautiful diamond. Is it true that you have to "want to give up"?

Penguin, I didn't want to quit smoking; I loved it. I thought it was my friend. But then, this friend, took away my health, my money, my friends, stole $ from me from being so expensive to buy, made me go out in the middle of night to go buy it, controlled me, made me stand outside in the cold and rain because my real friends didn't like it. All I wanted was to be like everybody else and feel accepted, instead I was rejected, my real friends didn't want to hug me as much because I smelled like it, and I felt like an outcast. NOW, I am free, richer, smell awesome, and give out free hugs which everybody really enjoy. What more could I possibly ask for? Oh, and I got my health back too, that radiant glow is so beautiful. So I wonder what I was thinking? I thought I had a friend, but all the time I had an enemy. If I would ever change that? No way baby. SSC Reunion Time!! Come join the party!

Every time I pop in here for a visit, this site looks more and more beautiful.

I have some good news and I have some bad news.

The good news is my stats are here to inspire you all and I want you all to stay close to this site.

The bad news is that for all of the oldtimers here, I have to tell you that a very special member who used this site and has succeeded well at quitting smoking too, has passed away yesterday of pancreatic cancer. If you knew Marilyn, aka "Patches", you will remember her. I know that Tresa knew her, and Lolly, etc. All from that time period.  She will be sadly missed.

Love to all of you and please enjoy your freedom from those cigarettes.
