Favorite relaxing activities

Hi Red,

Great topic!  The hobby that relaxes me the most is knitting.  The whole process is theraputic, everything from picking out the pattern to choosing the yarn and creating a gift that will give someone joy.  Even if a pattern doesn't work out, I  still enjoy the process.

Exposure Success Story

Davit,

I really like the idea of having a worry stone.  My daughter and her friends are going to the beach this Tuesday.  I'm going to ask her if she could find a sea shell on the beach for me; maybe a sand dollar.  Then I can think about my daughter and her friends having a good time on the beach, when I carry it with me.

Exposure Success Story

Hi Red,

Thank you for your lovely response and encouragement.  I really appreciate you.  It's good to know a fellow empty nester and it's good to know it gets easier.  You give me hope!  Your friend, Shari

Exposure Success Story

Thank you Ashley,

I feel like anything is possible and the possibilities are limitless.  I honestly believe that I will unlearn the negative behaviors and relearn positive behaviors.  I believe I will be cured!  It feels like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders, that I've been carrying around for years.  I feel lighter and like I can breathe easier.  I'm starting to feel like my old self, before I acquired anxiety and panic disorder.  I have regained my hope.

Session 2 Walkthrough

Counteracting every negative thought with a positive one really works.  Now, when a thought pops in my head, I recognize it as negative and say, "Stop!" instead of letting it run it's course.  For example, at a restaurant, a negative thought crossed my mind, "Don't eat there, you'll get sick."  I stopped the thought, immediately, and challenged it.  "I've eaten here many times, over the years, and I have never gotten sick here once."  That's all it took to be able to go in and enjoy my meal without wondering about it all night long.  Also, in the car, when we were stuck, initially, the thought was, "Oh no!", again I stopped the thought by saying, "Everything's fine, you are safe, you are not trapped, it's just a temporary situation and you can handle it."  I think the key, for me, is stopping the wild thoughts, as soon as I'm aware, and counteracting them with the truth, facts and the reality of whatever situation I'm in.  Your mind is very powerful and you can talk yourself into and out of things by your words (positive or negative).

Exposure Success Story

Thank you to everyone!!!  You are all a part of my success, because all of your words have helped me get to this point.  I've been out driving around with my daughter today.  I think that getting out everyday, even for a little bit, keeps me seeing that I can still do it today, just like I did yesterday.  I'm going to keep moving forward and I'm going to beat this.  I know all of you will too.  We can do this!!!

Exposure for Riding Elevators

Davit,

That was really a thought provoking question.  I've never asked myself, why, before.  I think there are things I can do, but I don't like to do.  I have finally gotten over the fear of driving through tunnels and over bridges of water.  I can do elevators, but I don't like them.  I believe the root of the latter is due to Agoraphobia.

Questions About Negative Core Beliefs

Hi Everyone,

I've been picking up bits and pieces of information from many posts about this subject.  I feel like I'm trying to put all of this information together, so it makes sense.  I believe that there is a session about it on the sister site called, The Depression Center.  I want to focus on The Panic Center, because I think it would be too much to do both at the same time.  I really believe learning about negative core beliefs would benefit me greatly.  Any suggestions?

Questions About Negative Core Beliefs

Davit,

Again you have saved the day!  I'm going to knit a superman cape for you :)  I found great information about it and I know this will truly help me.  I really feel good about digging up issues and tackling them head on.  I'm training myself to become an optimist, because I really like the way the view looks from this perspective.
