Fear of Mental Illness

Hi Ya Brenna:

Thanks for your response.  I do realize the importance breathing plays in a panic attack  and will try it again at some point in time.

Challenging negative thoughts thats the really big challenge shall we say for me.  I am so good at coming up with loads of negative thoughts but challenging them is a big problem for me as I believe the thoughts.  One example of a recurring thought is when I wake up in the morning I think to myself how am I going to get through the day?  This really worries me as I haven't been able to work since Jan/07 and basically have nothing to do all day but get more negative thoughts.  I feel as if I have no control over the thoughts because I can think of nothing to refute them most of the time.

What is fear?

Hi Ya All:

This is a subject I battle with on a daily basis.  My fear starts as soon as I waken up in the morning - what am I going to do today - will I be able to handle the day - what thoughts will I have today - what if something or someone upsets me today?

I agree with Diva I fear fear itself.

I am in a constant state of fear and don't want to be like this all my days.

I am hoping to get into a program in Sept at a local college it's a transition course for people with emotional issues like ours but I fear going to the course, I fear having to interact with others in a group setting, I fear having to go back on streetcars in the peak times with lots of other people.

In short I fear!

How do you upload avatars?

Hi Ya Faith:

I had the same question and mucked around a bit and got the answer.
Go to the Community drop down menu,
Choose View Support  Group once you are there on the top right hand side click on View Support Group Options.
From there you will see Upload a new picture icon and a box where you can specify  the location of the picutre

Once you have chosen the location make sure to click yes where it says "Show your picture icon"

Hope this answers your question and isn't too confusing.

Now if someone can tell me how to re size the Avatar as mine is very small.

What is fear?

Hi Ya Genejockey:

Thanks for your input, sorry to hear about your accident but congratulations on overcoming your anxiety.

As for the course I will be attending an information session next Wednesday, apparently there are only a few spots left.  So just in case I am not accepted I have an alternate plan.  There is a relaxation course at a hospital near by that starts in September & I  enrolled in that today.  In any case if I do get accepted in the course at the college I will try and work it out that I can attend the one at the hospital too.

Problems with avoidance

Hi Ya All:

My biggest avoidance is not being able to stay in at night, I have to get out for a walk every night.  When I was first diagnosed with Panic Disorder this was one of my biggest fears and with CBT I actually conquered it last year.  Now it's returned again, I managed to stay in 1 night without a PA.  But I don't want to try staying in again as I haven't had a PA in over a month.

Now with the nights getting darker earlier and the winter inevitably will  be here but just the thought of having to stay in gives me anxiety.  I know I will have to face it at some point but there never seems to be the right time.

Share!

Hi Ya All:

Just wanted to let you guys know I got a call this afternoon, I start the college course on Monday.  I am excited but also very frightened and anxious as I have been out of circulation for over a year and a half now.

I know I am making the right decision going as it will be to my benefit and hopefully integrate me back into the workforce.
