Smelling Cigs

18 years ago 0 38 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Is is just me losing my marbles or does anyone else smell cigs and cig smoke when there is none? Once in a while I get this whiff of the smell of cigs ON someone, you all know the one I mean. And then one of when you just sort of walk past the smell and it wafts over you? Mostly its the smell of OLD smoke, but can't be where I'm smelling it. In my house here, at my puter, never smoked at either place, and also in my car, where I haven't smoked in months. Is there such a thing as "phantom smoke smell"? Hi everyone. Been a long time since I've posted here at SSC. Am still not smoking, thank God!! But I totally agree with the smell thing. My friend and neighbor from across the street is well intentioned but there are times I smell hers. The last time she offered me a puff! I told her if the truth be told I'd really love to have one but then I'd be back at square one again. The temptation was really strong right then. My main problems now and I don't really think they're related to my stop smoking, but it just seems crazy that since I've stopped smoking in Jan. that my health has gone downhill and I feel worse since I've stopped smoking than I ever have in my life. I know its crazy and ridiculous but its true. I'm having excruciating body/muscle/joint pain and extreme fatigue, plus feet/legs swelling and having to take water pills that don't half do the job. Been to dr.s and had gallons of blood tests but no one can find out whats wrong. My quality of life has totally gone downhill. At times its all I can do to walk from end of my house to the other. It very well may be related to smoking/lung damage from all those years of smoking. I don'tknow. I just know I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired. I said before I felt better when I was smoking and at times am tempted to start back again just so I'll feel better!!! Anyone have any comments or ideas? All are appreciated. Thanks

I walked out of Walmart and was disgusted! Why do they let the employees smoke right out those doors?? ICK ICK ICK! Even as a smoker I hated the smell! When you smell it on someone, it really is gross... in my opinion :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 85 Amount Saved: $15 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 6 Mins: 9 Seconds: 6

Hi Raine, I too am very keen to the smell of smoke. Sometimes it smells very seductive and then other times I just hold my breath and beat it out of the line of smoke. Great advice from Shevie..."Don't worry about being tempted by the smell. Whenever it does smell good, just think of all the horrid things associated with smoking." Hang in there, you are doing great! come on people.... don't deny it. cigarette smell is yummy, especially the aroma from roll your own rum or wine tobacco. yummmmy !!! i think that is why i've always noticed grumpy ex-smokers around smokers, ever herd the saying that ex-smokers are the worst - they are just afraid to admit it .... that it still smells good. :8o: My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 544 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,605 Amount Saved: $3536 Life Gained: Days: 77 Hrs: 23 Mins: 23 Seconds: 2

Hi, Rainne. I've been through the full spectrum of really liking the smell to it being the most disgusting thing ever, several times. Right now it depends on how strong it is. Weak smoke is pleasant, strong smoke is repulsive. BTW, pleasant does not equal attractive or alluring. Don't worry about being tempted by the smell. Whenever it does smell good, just think of all the horrid things associated with smoking. Congratulations on 25 days smoke-free, Rainne. You're doing great! Rainne, I went through the same thing and as disturbing as it is the smell would sometimes even make me salivate. Talk about Pavlovian! Now, about 99.8% of the time it smells disgusting and offensive. There is still the .20% times though when for some reason it isn't as gross. Not nearly the same as when I first quit though. Get job on those 25 days. You are almost at ONE MONTH!! I see a reward in your future... ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 692 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,852 Amount Saved: $3114 Life Gained: Days: 51 Hrs: 6 Mins: 30 Seconds: 11
