Excellent explanation Davit.... I'm sorry you are feeling sad.  Please remember how many people you are helping understand CBT right here, right now.  I don't think I would be as far along in my recovery without your insight, explanations, and encouragement.  I would like to share what you wrote today on another forum... would that be ok?  Do you want credit or anonymity? Just checking....

When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound, rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal.

Fortuneately small battles can be disposable, and we can deal with larger challenges along the way

Did you notice how easy it is for us to accept something we don't want because it seems acceptable or the thing to do cause everybody does it. And before you know it since we all went along we now have too. Ever notice how hard it is to change something stupid once everybody starts doing it. Ever notice how easy it is to just go along. Every company that sells something has people on the payroll that know how to do this to us. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It depends on how good the lie is.
Core beliefs are like that. We have been listening to the lie from us and others for so long we think it is the thing to do and if we don't we are so used to just going along that we do.
But something just keeps saying "this isn't right" and something says it is or there is nothing we can do. This push pull is the hidden trigger that sets us up for panic not the episode that opens up this trigger. Core beliefs are just that. Beliefs, guides we live by. No problem till we start to doubt them. Negative ones make you sad and can make you very depressed. But you have been living with them for years. And building on them so you can live with them. So how are you supposed to change them with this much built in protection.
First off you have to really want to. Second you have to accept that they exist and thirdly you have to believe you can change. (not them but you) Attitude, perception and belief.

Think about it. If you know a core belief is negative then you must be questioning it or you would have gone along with it. Going along with it is just another core belief telling you you can't change it. And that is a lie. You can change it by changing how you look at it. And believing you really can, but it won't work unless you really want it too. You have to have all three or all the books and quotes and information is not going to do a thing.
Just babbling tonight. Just sad because there is not more useful information in a way that everyone can understand. Just mad because there are so many books selling only half the answer, doing more harm than good. Funny hey! all you need is right here and it is free.

Davit.

Red,

After decluttering for weeks for a very minor renovation, and finding very old pasta, very old ammunition, very old plastic bags, very old coffee, and getting your refreshing reply, I feel very very old.

Ps. I think it’s TTFN, not TFNA, but I hardly notice Freudian slips anymore...the research you made me do to understand that snippet

Red,
Imagine sharing your beautiful quilts with cultures all over the world on your computer and being able to instantaneously share your joy on a wireless device!  That is the wonder of wireless and text communication...but if we  wish to be traditional, we'll have to stick to the old ways

Hugs,

This is probably so..Computing has its good points and bad points...I guess...

I will be happy when my quilting class starts again next month and I can listen and talk to everyone again in person and hear them laugh see them smile and laugh with them all again. Computing is just not the same as in person face to face contact for me now.   It is surprising to me that I would say this and see it this way being that I came to this site suffering with ptsd/agoraphobia/anxiety/panic. The on line experience seemed like a dream come true being that I am agoraphobic, and it really has helped me a lot..
I really think it is because of what I learned here that I am now able to really enjoy the company of others in person and face to face. Challenging my anxious and negative thoughts and doing exposure work has really changed me and my life for the better..I would never want to go back to who or what I was before I started working the various programs here...
