My Fears & Anxious Thoughts...

13 years ago 0 659 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Tiana!!!

Thanks for showing a interest..

I am doing pretty good at the close of this week..I am relived that I dropped one of my classes and was able to start my new BP meds yesterday..So far so good with no bad reactions this time..As for my friends these are friends I have in class we don't see each other outside of class but we do spent 3 hours every Tuesday in class enjoying each others company.. Two of my classmates asked me for my phone number Tuesday of this week and we exchanged phone numbers..I took a chance and give them my number which is a Big step for me..As for this weekend I plan on giving myself some time here at home letting myself adjust to my medication and I may go for a walk at a nearby lake with my partner this weekend or maybe for a ride in the country, weather permitting...Thats right a ride in the car as a passenger...I am working on that fear list and very happy with progress I have made so far...

Hugs,

I personally feel this site and support group is about people supporting people in a positive way..This means not criticizing other members sentence structure..or the way they put a thought together..If we all had to worry about this and whether we put our thoughts in to neat little sentences with perfect spelling and punctuation and in neat little paragraphs I really don't think most of us would post at all. I know I wouldn't. Not to mention the new people reading this and not posting because there are worried about be criticized about their grammar..I think this is the last thing we need to be concerned about while we are trying to get better and work on ourselves and our CBT..
I was told before by one of the Educators that if you don't like the way the forum is being run or would like to see them make changes here on the site to contact them via email under feedback on the main page of the forum. The the forum is not the appropriate place to address this issues or your concerns..I quote!!!
Its located on the bottom right hand side of the main forum page..They are more than willing to listen to any suggestion or complaints you have.

Well, no matter what is on the tube, you can't get rid of us!

I think your suggestion is a good one, Hugs, but it's important to accept that not everyone is going to be able to, or want to, write in APA format, or even paragraphs! But it would help readability and therefore encourage thorough reading of the posts, and the other points you mention. Vive la difference, as they say. Thanks for your suggestion for trying to make this site even better!

So, back to the topic at hand... Red, how are you doing with facing your fears as this week draws to a close? How are you working on your list? Have some fun things planned for the weekend with your new friends?

Davit,
Sorry about those mushrooms.  I can't wait to cook up a soup from scratch instead of the canned stuff with all that sodium!

See the "celebrities anxiety" forum for my answer to your question.

Also, note that you can make any claims you want here,  but the numbers last week, plummeted from 600 to 90 one night while you and I were online.  Competing with "American Idol", "Dancing with the stars" and spring weather is a reality.
If we're the only two left online, I don't think I'd refuse a ride on a "John Deere", but I don't know about dancing;)

Hugs,

Explain yourself please. What is wrong with the forums. I've been on here a long time and seen it go from barely alive to what we have now. What do you want to do to improve it.

Guys and Dolls,

How about typing in paragraphs for readability?  Unless you’re on a portable phone/device, it makes a lot of us more apt to read the great testimonials of change. Newcomers might be more likely to be interested too. Sometimes I use a word processor and copy and paste.

Last week I saw the views drop from 600 to 90. I’m not suggesting we not be spontaneous but what’s the point writing if nobody is reading, and eventually the site just shuts down?

Just some constructive criticism for something that could work...and the site is competing with great spring weather!

Hi Red

I am going to give you a different perspective on your list of fears. The fears you mention are all judgement turned inwards. Like you said the what will happen if. Could you look at these judgements as just that a thought that comes into you mind. Recognize that the thought is just a judgement of what may happen, and leave it there. If you think about your fear you wrote down they are not complete, such as trying new meds. You could try a new med and it is the exact right one for you and your entire life will change for the better. In you fear list you are taking the thought of taking a new med farther then it has to go to be a fear. I imagine that the fear of taking a new med involves what I am going to feel like when I start, what if is worse then the one I taking now, what will my side effects be. So your thought of taking a new med in your mind has several implied premises in it to become a fear. Taking a new med is the event the anxiety and fear that surrounds taking a new med comes from what is going to happen to me. Can you see the event of taking the med as different from the fear that surround what will happen to me. If you stop processing the thought that comes into your mind about trying a new meds then you will not go through the whole process of what will happen to me if I take a new med. Even if a new thought comes that the new med will be worse then the one I am on is still just a judgement and a thought and can be stopped there. By processing the what if I try a new med you have added several steps that you think are going to happen to come to a bad outcome. All the steps that have to happen are just in your mind right now. Every time you think about trying a new med you are treating it as a bad outcome which is separate from just swallowing a pill. Finally if you keep processing what will happen if I take a new med who is doing the damage to you. Right now I am assuming it is you because I am inferring that you have not tried it yet. Every time you process this thought it is you creating inner fear by processing the event to your conclusion of what is going to happen if you take a new med. You have a choice to CBT this thought to a realistic one. You do not know what is going to happen if you try a new med, which stops the catastrophic thoughts surrounding it, or you can just treat it as a thought notice it s just a thought, do not process it and let it go. The reason I give you the second choice is you have some link of the thought of taking a new med that goes to a bad outcome some link that has been formed in your mind real or not. If you are aware of this link then you can try and CBT but you can also take the initial thought of trying a new med as just a thought and break the link there to your conclusion. The same goes for getting close to people, the thought is yours and the judgement of what will happen is yours ( i know you have had bad experiences with people) you could meet a person that accepts you for who your are and provides great support on your journey to getting healthier. If you think about it imagine everyone that has responded to you on this site and is trying to help you. Would you be in fear of becoming close to some of the people on tis site. The ones who you believe have the best intension and are showing you compassion because they know a little bit about what it is like to have some of your problems.

Just my opinion I am not saying what you are doing is wrong if you have to much on your plate you will be less likely to process a thought of fear to a more realistic one. I hope I did not annoy you with my opinions, just because I can say it does not mean I have the wisdom of it, but I am trying.

Sounds good, Red. You are being gentle with yourself, not over-filling your plate, setting priorities. Nice work- keep it up!

YES. definitely. That is the answer, there will always be things we have no control over. The one thing we have control over is accepting this fact. Control comes in many forms some small some big but the one thing in common is that it is ours.

Your forever friend,
Davit.
