Yay for you deb48. Thank you for the inspiration. In a world full of craziness every once in a while something happens to reinforce our faith in our fellow humans. I ran into a freind a short while back who informed me that he'd been smoke free for a couple of months. His main reason for stopping was that it was becoming so expensive that it was taking the food out of his children's mouths. When I finished talking to him I turned and walked away with a smile on my face thinking " this is what a man does. " breather

YAY!!! Rock on Breather for still adding up those days and nites so beautifully!!! Yes, indeed quitting is very do-able. Easy..not always. But with focused committment--it CAN be done.

My best advice to all you just joining--always take one day, one hour or one minute at a time. Deep breathe and remember NOPE. Simple words--yes--but they work!!!

Life without the nicotine is beautiful. Breathing, exercising and not caught up in the chain of addiction is an amazing thing.

Good Luck + stay strong.....it can be done:)

Hello old and new people who aren't smoking today. Haven't been around here lately. Still not smoking. It's hard to believe how the stats add up. One day at a time the stats add up bigtime. Summer's almost here and I'm looking forward to rowing up and down the river and having the breath to be able to do it. If you're new here know that you can stop smoking. We can do about anything we want to when we put our minds to it. Just for this day tell yourself that " I won't smoke today " no matter what ! breather

Breather, you so rock with that post!  And so true!!  A friend of mine started the same day as me (8/16/10) and every night, removed the patch and smoked.  Hello???  But at first there was all this talk of doing it together, getting more active/gym, etc.  I knew deep inside she would bail and I was right.  I was angry at first, but then came to realize hey, it's on her, not me.  What I've done is to benefit me and no one can own that but me.  What others do is their business.

Glad I came here to find like-minded people - people who are truly committed!

Keep the Quit, ya'll!!

What a wonderful post breather! That is what makes this site so special. We ALL understand what happens when you quit!  Been there, done that, and literally have the T shirt (and key chain) to prove it!
And yes, you are right, there are alot of quitters here who are indeed very happy to be done with their addictions!
I am one of them! The freedom is so wonderful. Quitting really is a new beginning to a new life.
Day by day you will find your freedom too! What better place to be, than with a group of 'quitters' from around the world, who are here to help each other get their health and lives back from an awful addiction!
Stick with us! We'll help you get through it all!

You're not alone hopeful. There are hundreds of people here that are wanting and hoping for you to succeed. When I first happened on this site there were people that reached out and understood what I was going through. The thing that most attracted me was noticing that some people actually seemed happy not smoking. I'm not going to question how or why it works but suffice to say that it does and will work if we want it to. Happiness is an inside job. Nobody can make us feel anything , we decide that for ourselves. I'm truley happy to not be a slave to my addiction anymore. The chains that bind me have been broken and freedom from it has molded a new reality. View the craves as healing and growth. Like Rock says " temporary inconvenience equals permanent improvement ". I think of it as learning how to live a new way of life. I can breathe now and I'm happy about that ! breather

I totally agree Breather and Rock!

For my first week everyone was a my biggest cheerleader and week by week the support is less and less. Like guys said now people seemed to be annoyed by it.

Thank for me letting me know I am not the only one!

Breather, very well said!  And you're right, we all experience that initial high after quitting.  Our friends are there cheering us on.  And then after a few months of remaining quit, friends don't seem to care as much as they did when you first quit.  They don't understand that smoking is an addiction.  I had a friend say "Geeze, so you quit smoking.  You don't have to tell me every couple months that you are still not smoking"  It's not like being on a diet.  If you have a big piece of cake today, you can eat lighter tomorrow and exercise.  Smoking isn't like that.  You cannot just have one then be quit again like nothing happened.  N.O.P.E.  That's the beauty of this site.  We're all here for each other.  We understand what its like.  And we celebrate 500 smoke free days the same way we celebrate 50 smoke free days, 5 smoke free days, or even 5,000 smoke free days!  Thanks for reminding us to stay close to each other!

My Mileage:

My Quit Date: 8/20/2008

Cigarettes Not Smoked: 29,560
Amount Saved: $7,390.00

When we embark on our journey of smoking cessation we have the support of freinds and family. Sometimes they may even stop smoking with us and at the least they support us in our endeavor. Very early on the support seems to wain , people close start back smoking and they really don't want to talk about it anymore. This leaves us feeling alienated and alone. As time goes on there are issues that need to be dealt with. There's always the one that blows smoke in your face ( whether intentional or not ) so staying away from certain situations is a must in the short term. Only other like minded individuals can understand what we have to go through to be successful. People that are going and have gone through the same things we are. I just wanted to tell you that if you're at the point of feeling alienated all is not lost. There are people here who have gone through and are going through the same things you are. Stick around , read and post here. You keep me smoke free and I can only stay that way by giving back. You're the most important person here. Excellent for you. breather
