When some people prepare to quit, they consciously try to cut down. One such person wrote to us that in order to be able to do that, she kept her cigarettes outside. For her, smoking had been automatic, and all other attempts to cut down had failed. She wanted to start developing coping methods before the big day came.
Another person wrote that he put away his pack, only taking out a certain amount for the morning. He did the same for the afternoon and the same for the evening. This allowed him to discover the time of day when his strongest urges hit. Then he would work on dealing with that time of day.
Hey Bluesyfreddy!!!!! Welcome, welcome, welcome! You've definitely come to the right place. And yes, the feelings you're experiencing right now are PERFECTLY normal. No, it isn't easy, but Pen is right...its as hard as you make it. First and foremost, keep taking the Champix as you ready yourself by reading and planning for those first days of your quit. ONE CRAVE, ONE DAY AT A TIME! Baby steps. Don't look too far ahead and be ready with your coping tools. Plenty of water, walking, deep breathing(that really worked for me), good tv shows, and napping when you can.
Prepare, plan, post and read here at SSC. And be determined! This is one of the greatest gifts you'll ever give yourself.
Cheers,
Jan
Welcome Bluesyfreddy,
I am not going to tell you that it's easy but I am going to tell you it's as hard as you make it.
And, I am going to tell you that it is a choice, your choice. Do you want to be a smoker for the rest of your smoke-shortened life or do you want to cast that terrible habit behind you and move forward into a far better life that your smoke-riddled mind has forgotten even exists?
Preparation is a good thing. You need to get your mindset right. You can only succeed if your desire to be quit is greater than your desire to smoke. Work on it.
You can do this.
Good Luck
