Quit Date is Feb 26th.... May need some help

Bluesyfreddy,

Many people who quit will admit that the reason they never quit before was because of a fear of failure.  Why go through withdrawal if it may not work, they wondered?  They did not know about SSC or the wonderful support they could get here.

When some people prepare to quit, they consciously try to cut down.  One such person wrote to us that in order to be able to do that, she kept her cigarettes outside.  For her, smoking had been automatic, and all other attempts to cut down had failed.  She wanted to start developing coping methods before the big day came.

Another person wrote that he put away his pack, only taking out a certain amount for the morning.  He did the same for the afternoon and the same for the evening.  This allowed him to discover the time of day when his strongest urges hit.  Then he would work on dealing with that time of day.

There are other ways of cutting down.  Members please continue with the advice!

Welcome Bluesfreddy!!  We're glad you're here and rooting for you.   Everyone's given you some great advice - there is so much wonderful support here.  I will add that you can set up your quit meter now and it will count down for you.  Also, it's sounds like you're scared to death...but that's very, very normal.  Peteg said something on another thread that really hit home with me today.  He compared quitters with people who experience a tragedy.  It's so true.  Even though we want our lives to be different in this case, it doesn't make the change any easier.  And we do have to learn to live a different life.  But you can do this!  Read and post, stay close by and know we're here on your side.   Congratulations on your decision, be proud!
Angie

Hey Bluesyfreddy!!!!!  Welcome, welcome, welcome!  You've definitely come to the right place.  And yes, the feelings you're experiencing right now are PERFECTLY normal.  No, it isn't easy, but Pen is right...its as hard as you make it.  First and foremost, keep taking the Champix as you ready yourself by reading and planning for those first days of your quit.  ONE CRAVE, ONE DAY AT A TIME!  Baby steps.  Don't look too far ahead and be ready with your coping tools.  Plenty of water, walking, deep breathing(that really worked for me), good tv shows, and napping when you can.

Prepare, plan, post and read here at SSC.  And be determined!  This is one of the greatest gifts you'll ever give yourself.

Cheers,

Jan

hi bluesyfreddy, a big warm welcome to the ssc!!! congrats on making your decsion to quit! I am so glad you found this place, again, like many other members am not sure I could have quit without it.  Just take one day at a time and very soon those stats will start to increase and when they do u really wont want to reset the meter!!! Like you I lack confidence in my own quit - and to date still do (I quit previously for 2 and a half years and then started again!!) - which is why I am so pleased the ssc is here, as when those feelings hit you then you post here and wait for five replys!!!! not only will that craving past but the replys your new friends here will send you will make you feel so positive, proud and confidence renewed that you will be back on track in no time!!
Good luck bluesy and keep in touch, we are all here anytime of the night or day, keep strong and keep those carrot sticks and iced water close by x x

Welcome Bluesyfreddy,

I am not going to tell you that it's easy but I am going to tell you it's as hard as you make it.

And, I am going to tell you that it is a choice, your choice. Do you want to be a smoker for the rest of your smoke-shortened life or do you want to cast that terrible habit behind you and move forward into a far better life that your smoke-riddled mind has forgotten even exists?

Preparation is a good thing. You need to get your mindset right. You can only succeed if your desire to be quit is greater than your desire to smoke. Work on it.

The right mindset combined with your own courage, strength, will and determination will see you through.

Stay close to this site; it has an answer to any question that you might throw at it and support when you need it most.

You can do this.

Good Luck

Penitent

Welcome to the forum.  The place that has saved me more than once in my short quit.......and that gave me new strength to go on.  Read and post......it will help a LOT.
Do every thing Rock said......it's important to see how you are doing daily.  Lots of rewards for getting by a crave and making new days and weeks.
I smoked for a long time......If I can quit, you can too....and I already see benefits.
I'm in charge now......not the cigs.  That's one of the most important things to me.
We're with you........you can do it.

Bob

We're so glad you are here!  You've gotten your plan set with Champix, but please make sure you've used the resources here at SSC under "my program" so you are 100% percent prepared for when your quit date arrives.  Add your quit meter to your postings from under "my profile".  Set up a reward system to celebrate each passed cravings, each smoke free day, and each smoke free week.  Ask Mr. Ed to add you to the quit lists by replying to one of his daily postings.  So now that we have the admin done, I smoked 40 cigs a day (2 packs) for 20 years.  I only saw myself as a smoker.  Friends and coworkers saw me as a smoker.  I had some medical issues that convinced me that I needed to quit.  I went cold turkey.  I threw everything away, from cigs to lighters to my prized ashtrays.  I told everybody I knew to hold me accountable.  In my case, I was one of the last smokers.  So posting here at SSC was my life line.  I posted, daily, if not hourly!  I read almost every posting in all the forums.  I learned that this quit was all about me.  I needed to this for me, not anybody else.  Once I put my mind to it that I needed to do this for me, it clicked.  It sounds like you have done the same.  You are on day 3 of champix.  Tell yourself you can do this.  This is all about you!  Post as often as you need.  Because what you are experiencing we all have experienced.  Just remember that we are all rooting for your success!!!  You can do it!!!

WELCOME! We are happy you are ready to really go for it! Slowly readying yourself for the quit is a great idea! Cutting back has started preparing you to skip many of those smokes you miss throughout your daily routine. Know that you aren't alone, and many of us are fresh quitters than are going through the same discomforts. As well, the support and wisdom of seasoned quitters is gonna come in handy!

Hi Bluesyfreddy.  You can do this and we can help you.  If you have not read Allen Carr's book, I strongly suggest that you do.  I'm sorry, I can't think of the title right now, but I'm sure one of the other member's will come up with it.  So much of a successful quit is the positive attitude going into it.  My previous quits were not successful because I always felt that I had lost something when in truth I was gaining so much more.  Read, Read, Read the other posts and follow the program, you can't go wrong.  There is so much wonderful support here, we all understand how you are feeling and will be rooting you on.  Jo

You've come to a great place.  Read and study all the materials here. It helps get you mind in the right place for your commitment to quit.  Drink lots of water to kill the cravings.

You will receive TONS of support from all of us.  We are all in the same boat with the same challenges....and all with the same goal of quitting and staying quit.

You can do it.  I am 30-days into my first quit after 35 years of 1 1/2 packs a day.  Some days are better than others but it is so great to be able to breathe, laugh and live normally again after such a short time.

Choose life....the benefits are better.

Welcome!

Dave
