WHY AM I HAVING SUCH A HARD DAY?

16 years ago 0 1153 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Sherry,

You've got some great advice from your fellow quit buddies - and your mom.  Use the 4 D's, they really do help and take some down time to spoil yourself. Take a nice long walk or a bubble bath, cook or go out for a nice meal, buy a magazine and enjoy reading it, whatever you really enjoy doing.

Stay strong and keep on posting.

I hope your mom arrives soon Sherry.  She sure sounds like a wonderful person.  You're very lucky.  Hang in there until she arrives, and try to relax a bit this evening.  It will get easier, I promise.

Okay, I went outside, , and . I  Mom. She reminded me 1. This too shall pass. 2. Smoking will not make ANYTHING better. 3. She loves me and I can ALWAYS call her and complain. She also said the 4 D's

1. Deep breathing. So I closed my eyes and breathed in through my nose and breathed out slowly through my mouth.

2. Drink. Iced Water slowly, sip by sip.

3. Do something else. Some activities trigger cravings. Get up and move around.

4. Delay for 10 min. Repeat if needed.

My Mother is amazing. She has been quit Now for over 20yrs. She used to Smoke 4 packs aday.

She is my inspiration!!!!!

Thank you to all  who responded in this ruff time for me.

I hope one day I will be able to help someone in need like Everyone has helped me.

okay , this might sound silly but i did it a couple of times early in my quit.

if things are just driving you nuts , make up about a dozen small water balloons and just blast 'em against a fence or an outside wall.

it will let off some steam and besides  , it's fun !

Hi Sherry,
You so remind me of me. It just plain hurts and you feel like crying or kicking or screaming. Yes it's bad but the payoff will come later. It's like Tresa said. Each time you power through it makes you stronger. You are not just quitting smoking, you are learning how to live without smoking. Your life is changing and the nicodemon is trying to do everything it can to get you back. I had three little words "get off me" that I repeated to myself. (in my head of course, it's all in your head) find something that works for you and repeat it as you deep breath. Smoking will only prolong your quit it will not make one thing better.

I know it is hard to keep a positive attitude but it is key to a successful quit. Like the childhood story "I think I can"  You can and you will feel such joy because you did.

Hey Sherry!!

My first couple of days when I was really craving, I hit the stairs!!  I did 4 long flights up and back down a couple of times while I breathed deeply in rhythm with my steps!!! Like 4 steps up on one long intake of air and 4 steps for the exhale!!  I also thought of a happy place that I would like to be!  For me it was the memories of scuba diving!!  Just breathing in and out, climbing the stairs slowly and thinging about all of the corral and little fishies swimming about!!

Distraction and deep breathing and getting into that crave basket whenever you need it!!!  You can do it!!!  Keep that Positive Mental Attitude....  YOU  CAN  DO  THIS!!!
