Still going strong!!! Yup, I always thought smoking was just a dirty habit, I never realized it was nicotine ADDICTION, or maybe never wanted to "accept" it was an addiction? I also never realized that whenever I smoked a cigarette, the only thing it did was to feed the craving the previous cigarette left. I wish it worked on everyone the way it did for me... SO FAR. I think it depends on what each person believes. Whatever works for you! For me, that book worked. I believe and most importantly "relate" to what was written in it. I feel like I just got "cured", and I feel free!!! Hi Strobz, Yes, the book is simply amazing. :) Some people don't believe everything it teaches but I'm sure everyone who reads it takes at least a little something good from it. I read it several times before my quit. I wanted ALL the amunition I could get so I didn't stop with just the book. I also used minimal dosage of generic Wellbutrin for a few weeks and prepared HEAVILY (learning to be positive, journaling, writing letters, lists, preparing crave busters, rewards etc). I wanted to make sure this was my forever quit. It is. I'm thankful for the members here who recommended the book to me. It worked. You're right Strobz, don't underestimate the power of the mind. Stay vigilant and keep your book/knowledge/crave busters handy. Continue "feeling" like a happy non-smoker and that's exactly what you'll be. You're doing a great job! YIPEEEE!!! Isn't it wonderful to be free? :) Pat My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 376 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 15,040 Amount Saved: $5,264.00 Life Gained: Days: 45 Hrs: 23 Mins: 37 Seconds: 40

Strobz, Many have found this book helpful. Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator

I have read his books and loved the little green mini one that keeps everything short and sweet. It serves as a visual reminder to why you quit smoking and why you want to keep quit! I believe that it helped me, but I am a firm believer in everyone finding out what works best for them. I think his books are little gems and it definetely made it much easier for me to quit and helped me understand my addiction further. Glad to hear that it is helping you, but remember to keep your guard up. I have had a few moments in the last month that were difficult but I was prepared for it so it didn't cause me to slip. Good luck with your quit! Here's to enjoying a smoke free life! It's a bit of a revelation isn't it....that smoking causes cravings rather than relieving them. Once you get your head round the addiction bit, then life is lot easier mentally. :) Lizzie :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/23/2003 Smoke-Free Days: 1752 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 26,280 Amount Saved: 6,570.00 Life Gained: Days: 180 Hrs: 5 Mins: 33 Seconds: 29

What a great post strobz and no, you are not the only one here!! There are many! Your enthusiasm for your quit as a result of the revelation you have recently experienced, courtesy of Allen Carr's book, is obvious in your post. He talks simple sense huh? There is no need to over-complicate a simple tenet. For some it takes a long, long time, for me and many others it was over quickly. With your positive mindset and your decision to dispense with all forms of nicotine delivery, it looks like it is going to be over very quickly for you too. It's a great feeling, believe me. I will watch closely and I wish you well. Best Wishes, Penitent d1361 :)

hi there strobz, I read the book 3 days into my Cold Turkey quit & yes it effected me cos i was laterally going mad ! I Read it non stop, over & over for 3 weeks & i should say apart from some bruised knuckles & a smashed up laptop it kept my quit 'fury' in check. The book did introduce me to the 'nicotine addiction' as all along i thought smoking was just a 'dirty old habit' ! I never underestimate the 'power of the mind' .... surrounding ourselves with positive influences helps our quits as does a healthy diet & lifestyle - not something we thought of whilst we sucked on those cancer sticks ! well done ! If it helped you then BRAVO! For some it works out that way, for me and many others it can be a day to day thing. Either way... as long as you aren't smoking.... that is what counts! My best to you!
