Keep re-enforcing in your mind's eye what you already know, "you can quit and can remain smoke free". What you may not know yet but will discover, you will like and appreciate what you have accomplished for yourself. For 20 years, a friend of mine gave up smoking every year for Lent. Sadly, she died in a car wreck in April about five years ago. I always smile when I think to myself, "at least she died a non-smoker." :) (Rest in peace, PK. Someday we'll meet again.) I've never really been anxious for that first one in the morning because I hack and cough and spit and gag - it hurts! Of course, I've always managed to get through it so that I could "enjoy" the rest of them throughout the day. LOL! My ex-husband used to smoke cigarettes only when we were out at a club and drinking. He wouldn't smoke at home, and could go weeks without one. I guess it can be done, but I couldn't do it. He never did become a full-time smoker, and eventually gave up cigarettes forever. Then I gave him up forever LOL My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/14/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 114 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,420 Amount Saved: $552.90 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 23 Mins: 18 Seconds: 52

Congratulations Marie on your upcoming one year achievement! Marie, Pretty amazing and I wonder how long she can hold out. I have never known anyone who has. It just seems so much easier to not smoke BFS, Appears like your friend couples drinking and smoking. Perhaps he looks at them as being one-and-the same. His weekends are his play time. However I think he is plays with fire and God forbid that the smoking takes hold on the weekdays. Marie, I think she's an addict who's fooling herself. On the other hand, I know a guy who "quit smoking" and now only smokes on the weekends when he's drinking. Now, I would say that it's just a matter of time before he'll be back to smoking all the time, but he's been doing this for 3 years and has never gone back to smoking! He ONLY smokes on the weekends when he's drinking. I know that I can't do this. One leads to one more, which leads to one pack and so on. I've tried and tried and tried and I can't tell you how many quits I have done that failed because I thought that I could be a social smoker. But here's the best part of all of it, I NO LONGER WANT TO!!! For YEARS I convinced myself that the ultimate dream for me would be to be a social smoker... and now, you couldn't MAKE me smoke... even if I COULD be a social smoker! That's just not something I desire anymore. So if your friend would just go a couple of years without smoking AT ALL, then she would most likely get to a place where she doesn't want to smoke either. Crave the Quit! Just had to share this.. I met a girl last week, she told me she has been quit for 24 years..... wow I was impressed, she said it was easy for her because she got sick and was hospitalized for 2 weeks, so when she left the hospital she was free of nicotine. During the conversation ,we talked about social smokers and I said I don't think they exist, she said of course I am one of those...... low and behold my surprise, she said I had a cig at Christmas sitting around the table with family and a cup of coffee, I said how many did you smoke, she replied 2, she says I know when to stop...... she says I think about smoking often but I don't, only once in a while. So I said do you think that by smoking once in a while you entertain the thoughts of smoking. She thought about it and said you're right if I didn't smoke once in a while I would never think about it. She stops after 2 cigarettes cause they don't really taste good, if she had a third it would be dangerous. So do you think she's a social smoker or an addict in control?
