I've heard it said, that if you want to be successful, surround yourself with successful people. Well, with the support I have here, I don't even have to learn how to fly, you people will carry me to where I want to go. Thanks RD Man! Really means a lot. So yesterday it was snowing, today it is very cold. And on these very cold days, we are sometimes treated to something special in the sky. We call them Sun dogs (don't know what the official term would be). When it is overcast, it looks like there are two more Sun's in the sky. Today, however, there was a clear blue sky and we were treated to two Rainbow's on either side of the Sun. Not really spectacular, but a special sight to warm us up here in the North. I thought it worth mentioning because I am looking for the "good" in my days right now, and I thought this was kind of nice. Also, I finally rewarded myself with something special, that I should have done a week ago. A beautiful bouquet of flowers to warm my home. (I won't see flowers outside for 6 months) Every little bit helps. Hope your day today and tomorrow full of sunshine, flowers and rainbows. Well the anxiety that I have been feeling the last 5 days has started to lessen. Slept soundly last night without having to spend 5 hours trying to catch my breathe, stop my pounding heart, and lift off whatever was squeezing my chest. I had a glimpse of a light at the end of the tunnel, and I was surprised. But I don't think it is the end of the tunnel. It must be the search light on the Cruise Boat that goes the the beach. The end of the tunnel is too far to see at this point and I'd best not go there because that is when I get in trouble - looking to far ahead. Better to just stay in the moment and .....breathe with mindfulness. Drying out my feathers slowly, I'm in control today. Well I made it through heck week, not without trouble, but I am still here and on Day 17. I have been having trouble sleeping, trouble breathing, and lots of anxiety. I remembered that when I quit a year ago, the night sweats were bad enough to take me to the doctor. At that time, I thought it was hormonal, and also that the medication she prescribed for me was to help with nights sweats due to hormonal changes. (I'm not at the right age for that yet, however.) I had some of that medication left and googled it. Turns out what she prescribed me (Clonidine) usually used to lower blood pressure, is also used to help with withdrawal symptoms from nicotine and other opiates, methadone etc. So I have been taking the pills, and WOW, I now feel GREAT! Finally had a decent nights sleep last night without any sleep aids. I am not having nearly as much trouble breathing. I have anxiety, but I am not attributing that to quitting, but to other things happening in my life right now. It has lifted my mood, making me feel confident and sure that quitting is the right thing for me and that I CAN DO THIS. As much as hate to take drugs for anything, I have to admit that this medication has helped to level out the brain chemicals, and I feel like I have much more control and better able to handle craves, thoughts and general day to day stresses. So....Onwards & upwards....flying or not. I will make it up the quit moutain. I'm sure it's no big surprise to some to find out I have relapsed!!! Again. I wasn't going to post under this name...just change it and continue on. But, when again, I failed to live up to my commitment to try again today, I thought that just won't do. Commitment......mmmmm, obviously don't have much...when it comes to quitting smoking that is. I definately have the desire because I keep coming back here. I seem to have lots of commitment when it comes to other things. When I start something I finish it...I see the end and I don't stop till I get there....much to my husband's dismay. This seems to be such a long process though, that my passion (and I have lots of that) seems to wane knowing just how long I will have to focus on this, just to be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel, never mind get there. I'm just not a one day at a time person. I apologize for seemingly abusing this site, over and over and over again with my many repeated attempts. Can't say I don't have the desire though. So where to now? I have an interview on Jan 4 for a job and have been focused on preparing for that. Seems at this point I can only have one focus ( or excuse ) Whether I get that job or not, I have chosen Jan 8th as the day to start clean again. It is my son's 5th birthday and I have been waiting for the perfect day. He's better at telling me I shouldn't smoke that I am. What I need help with is the commitment. It seems so easy for me to give up on myself, almost like an old friend I can depend on, if that makes any sense. Sure do want to change that, however. I'm really sick and tired of giving up on myself. Peace to all! Ok, all the LOL's from your "penguin friends" made me LOL
The other thing I am doing is smiling....at myself....and my efforts. Just acknowledging that I am a quitter makes all the difference in the world....IT MAKES ME HAPPY....And that feels good.
I hear there's a new movie out with Penguins... "Happy Feet". Of course, leave it to me to get the image of Steve Martin on Saturday Night Live doing his happy feet. Either way, I'm glad you've found yours :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/2/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 665 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,311 Amount Saved: $2374.05 Life Gained: Days: 70 Hrs: 11 Mins: 16 Seconds: 22
