SCARED

Sherri, I felt the same way with respect to my son (who is 7). So I just made sure to talk talk talk TALK to him about it and what I'd be going through and why. I also paid him the money I would have spent on smokes -- a five dollar bill every day -- for the first 21 days and I think that really helped make him a part of my quit. It became a little ritual at the end of the day for us to review the fact that I hadn't smoked and for me to thank him for his support (even if he hadn't particularly done anything that day) and give him a five dollar bill. Maybe my son is more capitalistic than most, but I have to say getting that five bucks sure seemed to take the sting out of the fact that I might have flipped out and shrieked at him about spilling a drop of milk earlier in the day. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 63 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,397 Amount Saved: $315 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 14 Mins: 19 Seconds: 52

Being afraid is natural when we start something new. As far as I know nobody has ever died from withdrawal from nicotine. So what is the worse thing that can happen? If you don't succede you won't die. Don't project into the future so much. You only have to quit for the moment and those moments add up fast. Good luck ! Harrell - Free and Healing for Four Months, Nine Days, 23 Hours and 20 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 11 Days and 8 Hours, by avoiding the use of 3274 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me $493.80.

Sherri, everybody else here with stats. on their quit meters, have been where you are right now. We/they are no different to you. If we can all do it - so, I assure you, can you. Try and look at it as excitement rather than fear. The first day of the whole of the rest of your clean life is coming. Just - like any journey, takes small steps. I look forward to seeing your counter rise. Hey Sherri, Well it wasn't that long ago that I wrote the same message I AM SO SCARED! and it did scare me soooo bad I would be awake all night worring, crying etc. you name it I did it, and several on this board said the fear of quitting is so much worse then when you finally make up your mind and really do it and boy have I ever found out they were right!!!!!!! at the time I sure thought yeah right they just don't know, but yes they and I do to know now that I have quit! I couldn't be happier, and yes there has been some bad times but oh so worth it and as the days go by is even more happy! I am using the patch, had smoked for 50 years, one of the best choices I have made in my life! this is my 4th try and will be the last one!!!!!! FOR SURE! I am here if you need to talk as are many other wonderful people, I have been on other smoking cessation site but this is the best one in my book! Hi Sherri, Welcome!!!!! I understand you're scared. I think we've all been through that. But what I've found is...the thought of quitting smoking is actually WORSE than actually doing it. Once you quit, you take it one crave at a time. Don't expect too much from yourself in the beginning, just be good to you!!!! Don't look too far ahead, and don't forget your coping tools. Lots of water, walking, and deep breathing. That really helped me in the beginning. Hang in there, and give a holler if you need us. You CAN do this, Cheers, Jan My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/13/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 86 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,605 Amount Saved: $774 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 18 Mins: 16 Seconds: 41

Sherri, Many of us are well into our quits. We aren't any different than you. That should make you feel great. It IS DO-ABLE. That is, if you really want to do it. First off.....you need to get happy about quiting. Get excited about a wonderful challenge. Look forward to the date you set for yourself. Next... while doing that....EDUCATE YOURSELF. Look into NRT's and see if it is for you. Read everything and anything. The amount of planning you put into the PRE-Quit...the better chance. I know there are some people who one day got in thier heads to throw out the pack and they never smoked again. but....don't count on that. Be prepared. Come here often...*(like all the time). Vent to us. You will be amazed at how strong you feel by coming here. Actually, in a day or two you will find yourself helping others and giving them advice. You can do this. We are here for you. Write us soon. Lots of support.
