numbness around lips.........

18 years ago 0 519 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hmmmm. No numbness around the mouth but numbness in both hands, particularly the right hand. The doctor prescribed some physical therapy and a TENS unit for the pain but won't do more without x-rays and that I simply cannot afford. He thought I might be getting some arthritis in my neck, which means either surgery which would be totally out of the realm of possibility or eventual paralysis to some degree. It would be wonderful if it was just caused by some smoking related condition that would just go away. The PT has helped so maybe it's just a pinched nerve caused by tension, anxiety and stress. The quit is the most stressful thing I ever did. It has lasted the longest and been the worst stress I have ever been under. Hey, all you younger people out there. Keep your quit now. You do not want to be 60 years old with health problems to begin with, and quit then. Interestingly enough, my husband has sailed through the quit with few bad days. Although, I privately think he cheated every so often.

Thanks for everyone's help with this one! I am still so amazed with some of the things that the mind and body can go thru with giving those darn things up! This particular one scares the hell out of me tho! "Determined" I will take your word for it tho and hope it goes away and never comes back! "Interesting" my Dr. has been absolutely no help with any of this. He didn't seem interested that I had even quit. But that's ok. He's never smoked so he wouldn't know how we all feel anyway. Like I tell my husband, someone that has never been held "captive" by this "demon" will never understand. I didn't have anything like that, but I have to comment your doctor. I've talked with mine about a couple of things as far as withdrawal, and was surprised at her lack of knowledge. I've learned more here at SSC and other websites than from my doctor. Onemoretime - I'm earlier in my quit, and no I haven't had any of the numbness. But, when a friend of mine quit she also had that (and a swollen tongue!). Well here I am still hanging in there! It hasn't been the easiest ride of my life, but it sure has been an interesting one! One question to anyone .........has anyone had like a numbness around your lips or face? It is such an odd feeling. Almost like novacane wearing off from dental work> My husband has had it too, and he's on day 32 of his quit. I told my Dr. about it, but he's just not much help with all of this. Oh well, good luck and good living to all of us "non smokers" My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/12/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 42 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 639 Amount Saved: $168 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 3 Mins: 34 Seconds: 44
