Rainie don,t feel sorry for me I realy have been Captain of my own ship and master of my own fate !! As you may have guessed i,m double addicted so this journey is doubly difficult.I really appreciate all of your suggestions. Not all is bad. I have led a rather adventures life believe me and i may be expecting too much from you fine people. Many of the suggestions are excellent but as the saying goes "Bin there done that"and much more.I maybe guilty of expecting all of you to come up with that "magic answer"and what I really need is professional help??In the meantime I enjoy chatting with all of you and will carry on with the non smoking L@K,ss Bear My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

Thank you Anna, Changing, and Rainie for your responses to help Bear. Your support makes this site so special.

I am not sure how I want to respond to you. On one hand I want to feel sorry for you because you have found yourself at a new place/chapter in your life and it sounds like you didn't make a plan on what to do with yourself. On the other hand...here you are a healthy man of sound mind and body and you are sittin on your patootie boozin it up and smokin ceegars with the internet!!! Come on Bear...when you rest you rust....I know your income has dropped 75% but...there are so many things to do in life that are free. Fishn' is free, walkin' is free, laughn' with friends is free, writing a letter is free (ok stamps cost a few cents), smelln' the roses is free!!!! Just don't let your life pass you by whether you are smoking or not. If you want to quit you will. It is that simple. Volunteering at a senior center where some are not as fortunate as you could put you in a GREAT frame of mind!!!! Good luck in what ever you do...just do (this has been brought to you by...my 2 cents)!!! Bear - Here's some motivation - You'll be saving quite a bit of money if you quit! Think about how much money you spend on smokes each week/month/year... Question - do you feel happy & fulfilled with your life? If not, maybe you should consider making some changes & see how you feel. There's no downside to trying something new - go to church, join a social group, join a gym, do some volunteer work, take a class, build something, try cooking a new recipe, etc. Even a "bull-headed" person can try something new. Just see what happens. And, keep thinking about stopping smoking -- keep reading & writing posts here. Hi there, No body can talk you into quitting smoking. It is 100% you my friend. I didn't think my body was suffering from smoking either, until I quit and I know what "good" feels like. I hope that you do it, aren't you worth it? Hi Bear, Good to hear back from you. We need to get some hobbies for you. Exercise at any age is great. Do you like to walk, hiking in your area? How about getting a set of dumb bells to use at home. Yes hobbies and motivators are needed. I noticed some motivator threads here to be read.

I,m not sure what will motivate me "stickin to it".One of the problem,s is I don,t have any side effect,s from smoking.Perhaps the reason is I smoke cigars.I,m in very good health for a guy 68 according to my docter who is also very supportive of me quitting smoking.Another part of the problem is I did,nt plan my retirment very well, income dropped 75%,no new interests, etc, etc,so it became very easy to grab a bottle of liquor,a package of cigars, park my butt in front of the computer, get wasted, smoke and have a good time ??? Sorry for the whinning but maybe there,s somebody else who is in the same dillema that can benifit from my experience ?? Hey Bear, Tell us what might motivate you. It might simply be a goal to shed the addiction, shows your strength. Family like strength of character. Thanks everybody.I,m a bit of bullheaded old b----- and thought i could deal with this addiction all by myself.I now see it,ll be a lot easier with support like this !!I,m still not sure about quitting( did i say i was bullheaded )so I think i will just do this one day at a time. I read a lot of the other post and found myself in many similar situations.I,ll keep in touch perhaps I,ll get lucky and read a post that will sell me 100% on the plus side of quitting..
