Bear, Thank you for opening up this dialogue. Fear of quitting is common but can be challenged by starting or continuing to focus on the positive. The benefits of quitting are endless! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by quitting. Danielle ____________________ The SSC Support Team

Good Morning Soldiers in the S.S.C. The sun is shining the temp is rising and so is the Bear !!! Sunshine don,t you be encouraging me to party I,m a master at this one for all the wrong reasons ;) In answer to your 2,nd question I see so many people expressing fear when it comes time for their quit date or even when their in the process. I,m sorry but I don,t see fear as a normal reaction to quitting smoking I understand it but do not accept it. Fear is only normal when we are faced with a life and death situation it,s the thing that activates the body to either fight or flight.I suspect It,s probably the reason many of us started to smoke right from the start along with the many other things we are faced with in life(bad jobs, relationships, dumb bosses, and the list goes on and on) My intention here was to open a dialouge here so that we could discuss these fears so that we could find ways of coping with this very destructive behaviour called fear. For me I have to remind myself to stay in the here and now because I have a very bad habit of wandering of into the future where I imagine all the catastrophes that may ???? happen as a result of not having the money to take care of them.Things like what will I do if my car breaks down and I can,t afford to get it fixed.I know.I know. People are going to say why does,nt he plan ahead so he,s prepared.Fact of the matter is I,m not very good at it.Bad impulse and instant gratification control ;p Well enough of my rambling I hope that clarifys some of my thoughts !!

Hi Bear, Are you marking the days off the calendar?? Well, Friday is the big day. Party, Party for your 30 days. You are really doing well, and I am so proud of you. Glad you got to take a walk today. The weather is beginning to break here also. Will be in the 70's over the weekend. Bear, what Josie is saying is start a new message about triggers and stressors. Of course I don't know what you had in mind. But I don't think you would offend anyone with that subject. Are you wanting to know how to handle triggers and stressors? Then just ask the question, how do you handle triggers and stressors? You will be surprised at the info you will get. We all have them and deal with them in different ways. As I have said many times my car, and phone was my biggest triggers. After I quit smoking I had my car professionally cleaned, it smelled like a new car. At all of my phones I kept a straw to chew on or a rubber band to pull on, I also kept a pen and pad to just doodle on. Also situations was also something I had to deal with, when something came up that I had not been through without smoking I had to find a whole new way to get through that situation. I'm still going through them, and I believe we will for sometime. Like the VA Tech tragedy I had to turn the TV off because I was getting so upset, and was beginning to grieve for all of the families. Because I had been through loosing a son, grandson, husband, and sister with in a very short length of time. It was bringing all of this grief back to me. So this is something I have to deal with every time I see someone grieving. But I can honestly say, I know how they feel. Sorry Bear I didn't mean to ramble. Thank you for all the info on the ingredients in Cigarettes. Wow, with all the chemicals, where is the tobacco???? Take care......... Hi Bear, big wave from southern Niagara. I have found my way back to this site after a few months away & I spent quite a while reading this thread...all 19 pages :) First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on your quit! I am proud of you for having the guts to do it. And I am impressed that you are taking the time to educate your self about the dangers of smoking. I have enjoyed this thread a lot. Your comment about your dreams made me laugh out loud. From the very first night, I've been having crazy dreams & so vivid that when I wake up, I'm not sure if they really happened. No nightmares, just bizarre funny stuff. Each night I look forward to see what dream awaits me.....Twilight Zone ;p And your a bird lover too?! Have you found the Bald Eagle cam yet? I spent many hours last spring & summer sitting at the computer, watching a pair of Bald Eagles from Sidney B.C. raise their 2 eaglets. It was relaxing just watching the 2 babies sleeping & hearing the wind in the trees. Anyways, continued success to you! Now that I have finally quit smoking myself (Day 17! woohoo) I feel the need for this site more than ever, so I will be popping in on you from time to time. Take care, Alanna Why do women with straight hair want curly hair? If you had straight hair, you wouldn't have to ask;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/2/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 16 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 422 Amount Saved: $129.76 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 18 Mins: 54 Seconds: 1

Hi Changing Hi kayla The old bear rallied around later in the day. The sun came out and I went for a walk. The sun felt good on these old bones and the fresh air was,nt hard to take either.I,m still a little surprised how much my sense of smell has improved I swear I can smell a burning cigarette a mile away. I hope you,re feeling better soon kayla I don,t like it when one of my girls gets under the weather. ;) I,m a little reluctant to start this new thread Changing as it may become a little too personal for some people for what I had in mind and I don,t want to offend anybody.. :(
