Hey Changing Don,t worry about chasing me.Everybody who has sent a thread has been very upbeat!! and encouraging it,s just what the doctor ordered.Ive tried quitting 4 times before?? but this is the first time i,ve used a support group.I,m on the patch courtesy of peel regional health.I probably would,nt have even considered quitting if I had,nt seen the add in the newspaper for free drug,s.Now the journey has started and with all the help I,m getting I,m starting to feel very good about this.. I have tried and tried again and this is the first time I have come this far in my quit. And I really feel as though I can do it, thanks to everyone here, the support they all show me (even though my loved ones support me, nothing is like the support everyone here will give to you), [b][u]and my desire to live a smoke-free life.[/u][/b] What I am trying to say is...as long as you continue to want this, and you stick around here and post and read....you will be amazed how far you can take this quit. And maybe be able to go back to enjoying that adventure filled life you love...with some money in your pocket .......... for living. Bear - I'm using Chantix (a relatively new "stop-smoking" drug on the market). It has helped me sooooo much. You might want to ask your doctor about it. One sentence has really helped me - [color=Maroon]You experience more cravings when you smoke, then when you quit.[/color] I've found this to be very true. When you're a smoker, you're either smoking or planning your next smoke all of the time. Once you quit, you only think about smoking occassionally. It's a huge relief! Hi Bear, Don't give up the quit until you have really tried. If you can look at yourself in the mirror and say "I tried as hard as I possibly could, and I just can't quit!", then maybe it's time for some professional help. Somebody famous (but I forget who at the moment) once said "Quitting is easy, I've done it a thousand times". C'mon, give it one more day. Hi Bear, Gets yourself mentally prepared for this and check out the tools on the web site. I cut down a week or two before I quit; however different strokes for different folks. Think about using an NRT; get yourself a set of coping tools, distractions�. I�m at work right now so I can�t talk long. There are many threads from the past that will help set you off in the right directions. Are there others available to give Bear some helpful hints and guidance? Heh 1939bear; There are always the obvious reasons for stopping, like you said health and $$$. I had been smoking for nearly 40 yrs and even since I have only been smoke free for 10 days, I feel GREAT. I enjoy my meals much better, I feel better and that sense of achievement is fascinating. I have two crutches...this site is one, absolutely great to come to and vent and also read other peoples comments. It does work. It's not like we are not all going through the same things. The other is I have taken up working out...doesn't have to be much...just DO SOMETHING. Hey Bear, Have you looked at the "Quit Program Tools" on the left side of this web page. They are meant to help you get started and keep you on the quit track. There are loads of people here to help stick around, surely someone will help you find some goods reasons to quit and stay quit. By the way Bear, I quit after 45 years of it.
