Is this normal?

I read somewhere that there are three co-addictives to smoking Caffiene, sugar and Nicotine. Supposedly, when we give up one, the others present themselves strongly. It also recomended quiting all three since they all work together. This book said it's the key to success...ugh...Theres no way I can quit all three, but keep that in mind when reaching for food, that its a natural supplementation to the lack of cigarrettes. I've been on the gradually quitting thing, down to one a day and tomorrow is my quit date. And DAMN, I cannot stay away from the M&M's that my co-worker brought in. Thanks ED! I mean, I really crave them even more than a smoke right now. At least if we are conscious of the reason behind the craving, maybe we can supress it. Where is that damn gum...

I am talking about hunger. It doesn't feel like a craving, it doesn't go away when I munch on something. It's just there. And I quit cold turkey, no gum or patch for me, so maybe that has somethingto do with it. Plus, some days I'm really hungry, others I can go without eating at all. I know it's not my oral fixation, I've had that ever since I was a kid (looong before smoking) and I know what it feels like to want to constantly shove something in there, LOL. Even touching my lips usually eases that feeling. But no, what I'm feeling is hunger! Cigarettes Not Smoked

I have never ever in my life felt soooooo hungry. I can't even think about cigarettes and cravings, all I think about is food. :8o: Having a toddler in the house doesn't help either. I try not to eat too much, but if it's not the Cherios staring at me from the top of the fridge, it's the bananas on the counter... or the crackers... or the juice... or whatever my kid didn't finish. I haven't gained any weight for the 10 days I haven't been smoking, but I seem to be almost obsessed with this... Help! Good Going biberonka......."Lets Have A Picnik"!! You are craving food, because you are probably deficient in a nutrient or vitamin...(remember smoking was depleting your B's and C's and playing hell with A) Complex foods like Apples, Lemons, Nuts and "Greens" will take care of this craving for food. Get a movie, and prepare a snack tray for you and the kids: suggestion (or make up your own...make sure it's nutritious...junk food not allowed) sliced apples peanuts (or crunchy-peanut butter crackers) Lemon aid You may be pleasantly surprised how filling this is! Aunt Deb ps...try to get some dark green (spinach, broccoli &etc) into your dinner every night...even just a 1/4 to 1/2 cup will help satisfy the the craving... Hi bib - I was wondering if you were talking about cravings or hunger. Even when I smoked, I would eat when I had cravings (i.e. at theater or a non-smoking house) I often wasn't hungry, I just wanted a cigarette. When I first quit, I was on the patch and I had tons of cravings but my appetite didn't increase that much.....But when the patch came off, I was eating anything and everything. I have been doing the "grazing" thing with healthier choices and the "hunger" thing seems to have improved. I think our bodies do all kinds of crazy things when we quit. Congratulations on 10 days! You are doing well! Yeppers - I know what hunger is...Mine just hit late in my quit after the patches were done and the nicotine was out of my system. I was hungry ALL the time and I could hardly wait to run in the door after work to eat. I still like to eat alot but I've been going to classes at my gym, talking to fitness instructors, talking to people who have lost weight, surfing internet...etc. One instructor told me that we need to get used to not being full. (I wanted to know what I could eat because I was ALWAYS hungry) That wasn't the answer I wanted....but I am starting to realize that I don't need to eat as much as I did. Another instructor told me that I have to have a snack at 3 or 4 (because I run out of energy and because I get so hungry) This seems to make a big difference. 3 small meals and 2 small snacks seem to keep us energized and keep us from starving.......hope it helps you. Hi biberonka, I think cravings feel a little like hunger, particularly at the beginning. I turned to food a lot at the beginning of my quit, and have managed to get back to eating normally now. How about giving in to this instinct in a healthy way? You could munch on fruit, seeds, drink water? Try to stay away from the sweet, processed foods. Good luck - and don't worry, these sensations do diminish as time goes on. Mate Eat dont smoke the cravings will die away. The cravings are very similar to hunger. Drink loads of water and eat sensibly. You will be fine! Biberonka, Nicotine is an appetite suppressant. Now that you've quit, your hungry. If you're worried about weight gain, start paying attention to the food choices you are making now. Keep them healthy and watch your portion sizes. Don't worry. This is temporary and will diminish as your body adjusts. Danielle ________________________ The SSC Support Team

Janeathena, Good luck tommorrow, be sure to check in and let us know how your first day went. Keep plenty of healthy snacks ready to munch on. Having an alternative in place makes it more likely you'll take that alternative. Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team
