Dear Chicky I am hoping to quit again on Monday. I've done this before. I went back because of weight gain. My quality of life off ciggs was awful. Smoking increases your metabolism so even if you keep same eating habit, you gain weight. Try not to overeat. This time, I'm jogging every day. I am eating but no sweets or cake or overloading on carbs. I do need some carbs though. Buy youself some cool workout clothes. Instead of being a smoker, be an athlete. Change your identity. I made it all day with not such a huge struggle but by 5 o'clock I was ready to jump out the window so I added one glass of wine with low carb dinner. I had that one treat and a tranquillizer before bed and I was fine but since you have to eat, you really should jog or get on ellipitical machine. Also, when I had craving, I brushed my teeth instead of eating. Women in general freak out if they get fat so just a suggestion. Good luck to you. Cranky

Of course there would always be that one when you first wake up, but the one I miss the most is after I drop the 3 kids off at school then I would light one up. I loved that part of the morning. So this morning was rough, and I had to really fight not to buy a pack when I stopped to get gas. My cravings are very strong today, and yesterday I ate everything in sight. I will be a 300lb non smoker. Trade in one issue for another. Oh I guess I am just feeling sorry for myself, boohoo. I want a cigarette.. I want a cigarette..I want a cigarette.. patti My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/28/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 39 Amount Saved: $7 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 3 Mins: 2 Seconds: 52

Hi Chicky, Your doing great!!! There is hope, today at 22 days I actually passed the gas station and didn't even think about the pack inside waiting for me to purchase it. A breakthrough for me. This is a big committment to yourself, and anything worth achieving, is worth working hard for. You've already done so well and fought off the cravings, keep up the great work. We are here for you! hey Chicky, Gonna is on to something, some people like water or green tea. Me I am a coffee fan. I have a go cup with me every morning of hotness. Yum, keeps me sane, you could also try hot tea. It is something about the warmth going down the throat that has always calmed me down. Hey I can relate to the hustle and bustle of getting kids ready. Try waking up a little before them, and sayin a little prayer to start the day off right. Then plan small rewards for yourself for after getting them to school. A good piece of chocolate, or good coffee. Or just plan sitting on your bum for a few mins. I like coming here. What ever you do to distract yourself, DON"T SMOKE. Your kids need you, they depend on you. Be strong, YOU CAN DO IT.... I never get in the car without a bottle of diet green tea (citrus flavor) and my sunflower seeds. I still miss my morning smoke and my afternoon (just got off of work) smoke. But now they are just a thought...and sometimes I don't even think about it for long stretches...it will get easier. Hi Patti, A crave only has as much power as we give it... Remember that when they come - if we take the power out of the crave, as the clock ticks, it goes away... it dissolves... Distractions - they do wonders in keeping us Quit... Do something else in those moments - put a straw in your mouth, drink ice water, chew gum... whatever works for you... You're doing great - hold on tight! ~ Healer My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 269 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,435 Amount Saved: $1250.85 Life Gained: Days: 34 Hrs: 23 Mins: 2 Seconds: 23

Chick, Listen, you are not alone. We have members come on this site and say that the hardest part of quitting is getting out of their routine. Therefore, you need to come up with a plan :). What would make you happy after dropping the kids off at school? Are you a reader? Go to a local book store and get a hot drink and read a magazine? Not a reader? Then, maybe go to a friends house and start a walking club? These are just a few tips to help you get started. Your thoughts? Melanie _________________________ The SSC Support Team
