I quit with the patch also....used it for about 16 weeks I believe. The highest dose does give you a buzz....but then you also get a spacey feeling from not inhaling carbon monoxide. This feeling is your brain on oxygen! The patch can also cause sleep disturbance and vivid, wild dreams. some users take it off at night....I chose to leave mine on all the time. I usually smoked a lot in the mornings and didn't want to face the craves without the patch. I think the bottom line is that you adjust to that steady stream of nicotine that comes from the patch. When you smoked your nicotine level went up and down...with the patch it is steady....that's one reason those patches can take the "edge" off the craving. Your nicotine level doesn't dip to a low...that helps you stay in control and learn to cope with the triggers and the habit of reaching for a smoke.
the patch isn't a magic bullet....you will still have strong urges to smoke....you must develope coping skills, stay positive and determined.
stick close to this site....post often, ask any questions...none are foolish....we have all been where you are and for one I thought the beginning was the worst....it gets better when you get through a couple of weeks. Just fasten your belt and ride the ride! :)
