First, let me say that I have quit many times in my life, sometimes for years before I relapsed by kidded myself in thinking that I can have just one. But I digress. The real issue is how long before you are ready to quit again. Sometimes afer a failed quit, attempting to jump back in gets to stressfull. How do you feel? Are you ready to start another quit? Cigarettes Not Smoked

Ok Sharon, Did smoking make any of the stressful situations disappear? Did your son's ankle heal itself? Did the ligament grow back into place by lighting up that cigerette. Did the money tree blossom in the back yard because you purchased and smoked cigerette's? Unless you have your own magic jeannie...I'm pretty sure none of the above happened. I used to do the same thing you do...grab a cig when I'm stressed or when things get tough. A fight with the husband, an argument with the boss, or the kid's climbing the walls...none of it went away by having a cig. Set a new quit date and think long and hard about stress and how to cope with it without smoking. The point to quitting is to LIVE. I try and look at stress as a reminder that I'm ALIVE and LIVING. Life goes on even if we are not smoking (isn't that the point of quitting, to live life and live it longer), just as it goes on when we are smoking...the difference is how we handle the stress without smoking. Sometimes we will over-react to small things especially in the beginning of the quit, but this is temporary and can be dealt with. Lung cancer is usually terminal. COPD is irreversible. Coping techniques for stress are totally learnable, it just takes patience and an understanding of how we react to stress. We are sooooo here for you. Pick youself up, patch up your kid's, buy a lotto ticket, and let's do this. Let's get you smoke free for life! The stress and money problems and yes, even the kid's are always going to be there.....let's get you smoke free and healthy to deal with all this! Let's get ready. Do you have a new quit date set? I was struck by comments of people talking about how there is never a good time to quit, so might as well just do it. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/19/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 32 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 325 Amount Saved: $160 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 0 Mins: 14 Seconds: 8

Hi Sharon :) No excuses are needed here. Most all of us have had bad times, as sell as good, and have gone off track with our quits. We can accept and understand that this happens to some people, often more than once. Sometimes it just happens when events in your life require so much of your attention that there's just not time or energy left over to spend on your own well being. Perhaps you weren't quite ready to make that firm commitment to stop smoking no matter what happens. Whatever the reason, don't give up entirely. Even if you are smoking right now, if you still want to quit, you know that when the time is right you will do just that. I suggest you go through the program tools again and set a new date to quit. Rewrite your public pledge too. Get your grieving for the habit over with before you actually start to quit and leaving the cigarettes behind will be much easier for you. I hope your little ones are healing and will soon be good as new. Why not spend the time it takes until then to read and contemplate the things that smoking is doing to you and the long and short term repercussions it could have on them. In other words, set a future quit date and do what you have to do between now and then. Once the kids are OK, then you are the next priority and it's important to make your family know this and help you heal just as you have been helping them. Your life depends on it so you will succeed.
