Pausing! This is your cuzzy! We can do this. Let's keep leaning on this support group and each other. One day at a time. I have been successful quitting on the patch. I have a 14 mg patch on right now. You should think about it. Today is day two for me. Love you cuzzy. Glad you're online with me and we're doing this together. xoxo Linda :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 29 Amount Saved: $4.8 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 4 Mins: 38 Seconds: 19

There is so much great information in these posts...I have been pouring over them, one quote that sticks out is "protect your quit". I said this to myself over and over again. When we get cravings or we feel weak, we have to remember that we have to protect our quit no matter what. What we are really doing is protecting ourselves from the harmful addiction. Once you have made the committement to quit, protect it at all costs. Quitting smoking is the single best thing you can do for yourself. Welcome!!! Pausing, unless you're thinking of quitting cold turkey, I'd go to your friendly physician and let the drugs do most of the hard work for you! I'm hearing wonderful things about Chantix (and here I thought that was a Parisian lounge singer with a whip)... no point in going crazy when we have drugs to do it for us. (Of course, what do I know? I hear voices in my head and have a suicidal Parrot psych nurse with a big needle chasing after me when she's not munching on steering wheels.) (With thanks to Dunedude for letting me steal his really good observations...) peteg

Hi pausing, the is a saying "nothing good comes easy, no matter how bad you wish it would" No one said giving up smoking was easy, it is after all , an addiction like any other. I too smoked for 31 years and am now just into my 4th week without the nicodemon If i can do it so can you! All you have to do is believe in yourself! You CAN do this lynnexx My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/24/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 21 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 324 Amount Saved: 84 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 10 Mins: 16 Seconds: 35

Quitting smoking is no harder than continuing to smoke, especially if you live somewhere that is cold this time of year (like I do). Think about it, you have to worry about having that pack around and if you don't you stress until you have bundled up and gone to the store to get some. You have to take many breaks at work that non smokers do not take and miss out on important information. You have to scrub your fingers and nails so they aren't nast ans yellow and embarrassing. You have to wash your clothes every time you wear them because they STINK. You have to clean ashes off of EVERYTHING, those suckers never stay in the ashtray. I am exhausted just thinking about going back to smoking!! Not to mention the extra time you are going to have to spend in the doctors office later on in life if you keep smoking to check on your emphysema or cancer. Now think about quitting again. All you have to do is stop!! And the rewards are endless!! Don't let anyone tell you that it is hard- the more you think this the nore discouraged you will get. Just be strong and do it, you know you can!! Good for you on this decision, welcome, and N.O.P.E!!! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi, I'm the Parrot psych nurse but I am NOT suicidal, thank you! I have 1 month = 30 days today. I am 52 years old and have smoked since I was 12. Well, if I can quit after 40 years and fairly easily too, then son, so can you. It is ALL about attitude. I have been called stubborn (who'd dare?), but I prefer to think of it as "goal oriented"!! And I have made up my mind that I am not going to smoke any more. Period. I don't care what happens. Earthquakes, flood, famine, murder, or mayhem, doesn't matter, I'm not smokin. Doesn't mean it's easy, just means I have made up my mind. And you can too. Decide. It's up to you. Everyone has their own issues, don't make other people's issues your own. Take what you like and leave the rest. I also find that if I stay in the Stats Parade and the General Forum, I dont read so much about others' issues, and I don't get caught up in them, because there is that issue I have about helping others, which could be called co dependent but I wouldnt want to diagnose myself, just because I married a couple of alcoholics (at different times, of course) and am a psych nurse.....
