cravings are getting worse

I am only on day 24 after 53 years of smoking but this time I can handle the beer OK. I usually get a smoking urge with the 1st beer, then after a couple it goes away and I never think of it again. I started quiting by not smoking in the car on the way home so it was just normal to not have one that first night I quit and I went from there. You can't give up everything! If it helps to drink, have at it. I am resolved to never have even that first one. Good Luck. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Ray Same here I haven't had a drink or a smoke. Maybe I can drink but I am not going to take a chance. I still drink my Starbucks everyday and although I still get a craving for a smoke once in a while I just remember how much better I have been feeling since I quit. I really don't want to try to quit again so I have to stay off of them as this is the hardest thing I have ever done and I have been through a lot Abe My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 45 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,269 Amount Saved: $434.25 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 9 Mins: 29 Seconds: 55

Pam - I agree with you, to a certain point. While alcohol by itself can just be a pesky trigger to remove, it's the lowered inhibitions brought on by consuming alcohol that usually gets most people. When you drink, how many do you have? How many does it take to catch a buzz? It's different for everyone. Social drinking to me could be a few glasses of wine to 14 beers at a kegger. Both are occaisional and both are social. It's at the kegger that I'm going to have a smoke. Please don't get me wrong, I'm really not preaching about the perils of alcohol, I just know (from my many meetings) that alcohol can and does make (some) otherwise rational people do irrational things. Smoking would be one of those irrational things. -- 2tone My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,043 Amount Saved: $203.5 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 3 Mins: 0 Seconds: 18

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

angelarachnid - Put the booze down. You can't drink and try to quit at the same time. I've been there. At 84 days, I'd think that booze wouldn't be a problem but if it's making you crave a smoke, don't drink. My last quit, I went over 6 months without drink for the same reason...every time I had a few drinks, the crave kicked in. With this quit, I have not, and will not touch a drink until I know it won't interfere with my quit. Hope this helps... -- 2tone My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 33 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 932 Amount Saved: $181.5 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 11 Mins: 19 Seconds: 48

Hi , I am on day 84, and my cravings are getting worse. I stopped with zyban, and over the past week or so they have been getting stronger are more regular. I am using alchohol or chocolate, i know this is not good but it "helps". I know i cannot smoke again, due to lung/breathing problems but sometimes if i have had a little to much to drink then ...i might be stupin enough, ???? any advise sugestions will be apreciated. Hi ALL Thanks for the support, it is really strange, i dont really crave if i have had a drink, but when i posted i had just went through 3 days of craving a ciggie in the morning, and afternoon when i dont drink??? Maybe it is just my body re adjusting???? The other day at work the 2 girls in the office went for a ciggie and i had no cravings, no problem within, did not want to join them nothing. When i nip down the local shop, no problems, i buy what i need and ignore the tobacco, when a friend is smoking at the bus stop i can easily stand up wind from his smoke, no probs it si only at stupid times of the day, in stupid situations???? I am a scientist so always have stuff on my mind it is when i am concentrating on spiders that i get the biggest urges and i cannot stop the spiders as this is what 95% of my life revolves around. My cavalry is this site, having a competative streak (and i have to win) i see people with thier days of stopped smoking in the hundreds and that helps me - as i am going to beat your targets :) Thanks again for all your comments and support, BTW did anyone read in New Scientist that the nicotine content in cigarets has went up 11% in recent years, and the Tobacco industry claims it is not trying to get people hooked??? Please take care of yourself. We cannot be there to do it for you (sometimes wish we could). Why are you off the Zyban? Considered patch or gum or tapes or books referenced on this site? We need to call in the calvary to help with our fight. Chocolate might help through a crave with no loss except for sorry feelings later. Alcohol will probably make things worse. Ol Nic is getting to you. I know, he can be verry charming. I will tell you one thing. Nic is a parasite. He cannot exist without your money to buy him or your relationships to take him from someone else or your hands to light him, your lips, mouth and lungs to inhale him, your blood to circulate him, your heart and brains to give him life at a price of your life. Something is going on in your life right now and it has nothing to do with cigarettes******************* What is it? Get a grip. Take it down. You have a vested interest in being a non-smoker. You are not gonna let something whimp you out. period. Keep posting. We want to know the true story. Even if you don't tell us. You owe it to yourself to be honest. Lastly, with 84 days - you have exhibited the courageous character necessary to withstand this threat. You do really have the power. I believe it. Ray, Snap out of it!!!! You've got 84 days behind you and you didn't get where you are by eating chocolate and drinking alcohol! You cannot jeopardize your quit because of a little too much alcohol. You know that alcohol blurs your view of your awesome quit.......SO DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL!!!! I know this journey is not easy but you've come toooo far to let it go now! I would stand by your side and do it for you if I could, but you know I can't. I care about you and your quit. Get angry and protect your quit with everything you've got! I know you can do it! Sending courage and determination your way! Stay strong, Ray! Hi Ray - Glad you are doing better....I suppose that one drink may help us to feel relaxed. Chocolate is scientifically proven to trigger a pleasure response (But you are the scientist so you would know more about that). Sooo....I would say that your body is telling you that it wants to relax and it wants to experience pleasure. If you don't want to take Zyban anymore and don't need it anymore, concentrate on what your body needs (what helps you relax - the gym, a walk, a bath, a nap, a good book - whatever works for you) Likewise, what makes you feel happy (chocolate, buying something, a funny movie or perhaps something more creative????) Glad you have a competitive streak....you don't want to lose those 84 days. All the best! As well you know! Keep busy Angel, you'll be back to where you were before you know it. Hope you're feeling better soon, Deli My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 181 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,726 Amount Saved: 543 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 6 Mins: 58 Seconds: 42
