Airports

During the summer, my wife and I spend as much time as possible traveling in our motorhome. She quit smoking six years ago and the motorhome has always been a no smoking zone. After driving for several hours I would find an excuse to stop so i could smoke. this summer will be so cool! I can hardly wait to take off on our smoke free adventures! Just returned from a couple days of travel - spending time in airports is such a great reinforcement for quitting. When I smoked I dreaded being "trappped" in airports - especially the big ones. Very few had smoking facilites, and most have none at all. Those that did, have had those caged rooms with glass doors and nicotine yellow ceilings, where you'd feel like a lab experiment. Has anyone ever paid attention to those ceilings - completely yellow - and not a pretty yellow. And next time you go by one, stop and look in. Its a very sad picture - people (me until this year) sucking away frantically and *****ing about having to give up lighters at security, and not having enough smoking areas in airports, and everywhere in general, etc etc. Sad pointless conversations and so much smoke in a shoe box size room. So glad I'm free If I had a long wait for a plane, I would sometimes go back all the way to the outside where I could smoke, and then have to go through a 20 minute wait (sometimes more) again through security. I would feel so stupid doing this - but I had no control. In the last 2 years, i realized that on long flights, 4 hours or more, I could use smokeless tobacco (which is not permitted on planes). The amount of trouble I would go through to sneak a dip during the flight was such a joke. Travelling made me feel so good about non smoking. My husband and I used to go on long drive vacations (18 hr drives), he does not smoke and never did, so I would look for ways to stop and run outside to smoke. He would always yell at me, why can't I just stop or can't I wait that long to have a smoke. Now I don't have to worry about that! So glad I quit. LOL :) LOL :) How I remember the airport saga. You are sooo right. I would run like a maniac through the airport trying to find a way out to smoke two in a row. Usually in a panic worring I may not get back intime for my connecting flight. Then came the 20 minutes to get through security again. By the time I got back to my seat.....I WANTED ANOTHER ONE ALREADY. THE MADDNESS OF IT ALL!! Strange You can see how long I have stopped. I have no craves. I am still nervous of situations where I CANT smoke (like airports and flights) I am a bit of a nutter I know but it's odd! Anyone agree? JQ5555, It's funny the realizations we make when the cloud of smoke has been lifted isn't it? Thanks for sharing. Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

How many of you blamed the airport for your discomfort? I used a trick I learned from someone else. I always used the gum when I traveled. It helped.
