Drugs?

Hey, everybody, thanks for the great responses! The "funniest" thing happened today. You may know from other posts that I'm also ordained and do a small church on weekends, in addition to my M-F job in homeland security. So today is a HUGE service, and I'm not looking forward to the first time I have to miss that all-important post-service cigarette, but more or less ready for it. The craving was worse than I thought it would be, and I'm like, "What's up with that?" I FORGOT the friggin patch this morning!! So I'm going full-tilt from 6 am until about 1:30 pm with no patch at all! No wonder I was going nuts. (With extra respect for you cold-turkey people... SO not me!) Slammed that baby on and started rubbing it like a genie was going to come out of it. But it did the trick, and soon I was okay. DEFINITELY NOT the kind of guy that just says no to drugs. Bring 'em on! Got through the day, though, which means I got through the week. Monday should be okay. Got my twizzlers. Oral fixation? Moi? peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 342 Amount Saved: $33 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 4 Mins: 43 Seconds: 42

Wow; thanks, everybody! Decided to forgo additional drugs -- I'm loopy enough as it is. I work two jobs, one is Mon-Fri, the other is weekend; the weekend job I knew would be really, really rough first time around the block, and we're halfway through. When (not if) I get through Sunday, I am most definitely celebrating the first week and first weekend down. Worst was today; tomorrow should be easier. Like the spiritual says, "I shall not be moved." Thanks for all the support -- I will reciprocate as soon as my head stops spinning around in circles like that girl in the Exorcist. peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 294 Amount Saved: $27.5 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 0 Mins: 48 Seconds: 24

Had a pretty rough Day 3 (I'm a wimp), so I checked with my doctor to see about additional help. (I had no idea you shouldn't do gum and patch at the same time.) She said I could increase to 2 hits of Zyban a day. Ewww... I was hoping for something more immediate. But then, my worst cravings are when I get home from work, so maybe it might not be a bad idea to try? What do you all think? Thanks! peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 190 Amount Saved: $16.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 16 Mins: 5 Seconds: 45

My own personal experience with Wellbutrin which is like Zyban was terrible. When I finally gave up the patch I took the Wellbutrin for a couple of days, but couldn't get to sleep at night. It was terrible and much worst then the withdraw. I know everyone is different, but I'm glad to be back to me with occasional cravings. Stay strong.... No such thing as a wimp when quitting smoking - this is for the brave only. I don't know much about Zyban. Chantix (maybe spelled wrong) has been talked alot about here too. In all honesty, I believe the first week is hell no matter what you use. It seems that a good many of us have hell week (barely survived) followed by heck week (we survived but it wasn't pretty). At different points we go through blahs or feelings of depression (and we think we are losing it). These seems to happen whether using medication, nrts or going cold turkey. The great thing is that it gets better.....You are doing great (it just doesn't feel like it yet) Keep posting! From Kiwi: "There is no right and wrong in this matter. if it works for you then its all good ! The important thing is that you no longer smoke, how you achieve that result is of no consequence ! " From Marie: "Quitting smoking is not for wimps, so you're not a wimp, you're a quitter" Thanks, Kiwi & Marie! :) Cheers, nmc My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 71 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 718 Amount Saved: $355 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 8 Mins: 14 Seconds: 12

Hey peteg, I know your not suppose to use gum and patches at the same time but I did the first couple days. I know it is probably too much but I used what ever it took to get me through the first couple days. After a week, I ripped the patch off and just went with gum. Im not recommending it at all, but just wanted to let you know your not alone. Just keep fighting.
